People in the medical field don't call air evacs 'ambulances'.
So it's either he was stable at the time of transport, which doesn't sound like the case, brain dead with no chance of survival, unlikely else they wouldn't go through the trouble of transporting him to Jackson, he was unstable and the weather made it impossible for flight, or he was more stable at time of transport and his condition has deteriorated since his transfer if he was transported by ground.
Nobody calls a helicopter or fixed wing transport an ambulance.
Only reason I say this, again, is means of transport tells a lot about his condition at the time of his transfer to Jackson.
