I was there, was so crazy because the game was not on TV (Most were not), the replays on the news is all many folks saw. Really incredible. Punt Bama Punt!

Gary Sanders call was incredible. At the end of the call said to Gusty Yearout,"when we're old and gray we'll still talk about this one."
I was 10. Now I am old and gray.

I was 6 years old. My dad was working on something in the back yard and had the game on his truck radio. I still remember it vividly…not a good memory.

Listened on the radio and could not believe what I was hearing.
Hard to realize it was fifty years ago.

It was even worse for me cause I had an obnoxious classmate that still tries to rub it in. I hate you Tony Nelson!!! lol

The only Alabama loss that literally made me cry. I was 11 at the time. Consolation was that they didn't beat us again until my Junior year at Alabama.

guy down the street from me did. We'd listen and then go out in his front yard and kick footballs into trees trying simulate a blocked punt.

Having to go back 50 years for smack. The hate is strong.

Well my mom and dad were newlyweds - Mom graduated from U of A in 71, dad from Auburn in May of 72. They recently moved to Lake Charles for a job - a plant in Lake Charles hired a few recent Auburn grads. My dad said they all lived in the same apartment complex at the time. They listened to the game via a long distance telephone call. As soon as the game was over one of his Auburn buddies in the same complex told them to come down they are going to CELEBRATE - my mom refused to go and pouted the rest of the weekend haha

Of course I was not at the "punt BAMA punt", but I did attend the 35-7 beatdown of Auburn by LSU that year. That was the only blemish on Auburn's record that season. That was one of Bert Jones' best game as a Tiger.

My Dad had to sit me down and have a long talk to me after about a week of not talking to anybody.

Do y’all miss the game being in Birmingham every year? I guess it never had the largest cocktail party atmosphere. Did Auburn feel it was non-neutral ?

We didn't feel anything. It wasn't neutral

I didn’t realize that. It should have switched to home and home then.

I know the punter and his wife and she’s hilarious!
When we were younger and we attended social events we would drink and have fun, or at least I did. She would always introduce her husband and then say, “he was the punter in the punt Bama punt game,” and then die laughing. He would just grin and chuckle!
She would say my husband is punt Bama punt!
