Dont know why people try and make these silly arguments. If you've been in the SEC long enough you know baseball is big down here, and thats really all that matters.

When you got stadiums packing in more people than almost any AAA venue and even Miami and Oakland from MLB in some cases it's pretty legit in that area.

Go tell LSU, Vandy, MSU, OM, UF, UT, Ark, USC etc etc fans college baseball doesnt matter and see what their reactions are

Meanwhile, we have Mizzou, Bama and maybe UGA fans saying baseball doesnt matter, gee, i wonder why

It's not. Everyone knows this but a few. It's okay, let them have it.

How many homeruns do you think you could hit over the course of a college softball season? I think I could hit 20-30 yabo's.

College baseball has NEVER been a big deal…until this past season. But now college baseball is the most important sport in the world. I’ll let you figure out why…

ESPN treats college baseball like a red headed step child Meanwhile College softball is on all the time.

Half the rating have to be just sports bars with TVs on ESPN2 by default.

How about you just shut up and sit down until you have the opportunity to see how a baseball season plays out on this board and come back and talk.

Thanks.

No it's not, and I hope this is always the case.

quote:

how can college baseball possibly be a big sport when very few college baseball teams actually turn a profit.

College athletics were never intended to be money makers.

Also, how can college baseball be a big sport when way more people watch women's college softball than men's baseball and it's not even close?

I am also a big NCAA softball fan, and the one thing they don't have to compete with is a professional league. The WCWS is their seniors swan song and they will be getting a job like the rest of us.

I have always contended that if MSU or Ole Miss won the NCAA championship in football or basketball they would have had to withstand a ton of media scrutiny that would possibly force some changes in some of their traditions.
Not with baseball. College baseball is just under the radar of the national pundits who like to stir the pot and I love it. I hope it stays this way for a long, long time.

Also popular and profitable don't necessarily mean good.

Look at all the shite on this list of what is popular and profitable.

List of shite

This clown cites profitably then uses womens softball as an example.

Many more college baseball teams “could” turn a profit if they had to. Most don’t try to because football makes so much money that it doesn’t matter if they only break even.

Of course that level of nuance is hard for the OP. Remember he doesn’t care about baseball but starts a thread about it.

Your source is Justins World huh? I don't buy that for a minute. I'm sorry your baseball program sucks so bad it bothers you during football season.

I watch Auburn when it gets to playoff time and even then only watch when I can. And I enjoy it. But I can count on one hand the number of games I’ve watched in the last 5-10 years

As a Yahkee here on the rant I am a fan of another non-revenue sport in NCAA Wrestling. A sport may be great and loved by a group without being "popular". No shame in that, just like what you like. Myself I am not much os a baseball fan at any level but understnad why some love it.

College baseball is fanfrickingtastic, even if we do get our hearts ripped out on an annual basis. I damn near p0rn bombed this son of a bitch when WAOM won it all. I'm putting myself in a foul mood just thinking about it. Mother frick.

I love college baseball. I like it because Long Beach State, & Fresno, and Coastal Carolina can win the CWS. It’s what college sports should be.

However, its not football. And frankly basketball isnt either. Football pays the bills and it’s what allows schools like all SEC schools, Clemson, USC, Oklahoma, Michigan, Texas, OU, UCLA, Notre Dame, etc be the teams to dominate director cup standings…..football funds better non revenue sports.

In Georgia’s case, the reason they have won national championships in 10 sports other than football is because the SEC football revenue model allows for it. It’s why Gonzaga has a great bball program and not much else. Or Long Beach is a great baseball program, not much else. Pepperdine swimming, etc.

SEC Football money makes the amenities of being an Auburn womens basketball player much better than playing WBB at Mercer.
