They ripped Baylor a new one the other night. Baylor couldn't get stops on defense if their life depended on it. Kalkbrenner is a really tough match up inside and Nembhard is a terrific point guard.

You’re correct but Baylor’s defense was awful all year long.

We are so emotionally damaged by our basketball program, we can’t see that they’ve really changed this time

We see it. But these emotional scars are deep. You can't just flip a switch. So until we break the curse and get to a final four, most of us tension cautiously optimistic. It probably helps we're not in the west bracket.

People will say, well it’s Alabama basketball, and I’ve been let down plenty of times by this program in the past.

That's the nature of the NCAA tournament. It's a fickle bitch. You could have incredible season, only to have it all disappear in one game (like Purdue). It may not be rational. But wouldn't have fans ever been known to be rational?

TL/DR - San Diego State are posers, they'd be a bubble team most years in a real league and we are going to kick the shite out of them.

I think I like dick swinging George.

Sunday(if we win of course) will be when the real butt clinching begins if it's Creighton. They are a preseason top 10 team and they can score.

Creighton is the #143 tempo in KenPom. And they really can't go any faster. Why is that, you may ask. Let me show you...

They have 4 guys playing basically 32+ minutes per game. 1 guy at 29 minutes, and 1 at 16 minutes. Everyone else is less than 10.

Their starters play a shitload. Only Brandon Miller plays more then 30 minutes a game for us. We have 9 guys who average at least 15 minutes per game, Creighton has 6. And our 9 doesn't even include Pringle.

They only played 6 guys vs Baylor (technically 8, but they only played 3 and 5 minutes). Pretty much every game, they play 6 and a couple others getting under 5 minutes.

They're fricked in the second half if it's close at halftime. They'll need an Oklahoma anomaly type lead.

Creighton is a damn good basketball team. But we are an absolute matchup nightmare for them. They'll need to kill it shooting 3s. And we just happen to be #3 at guarding 3s as per KenPom.

Before I saw the rest of your post I thought the implication was that it's because their two best players are white.

Let the I-65 journey begin. Got to get through Nashville before 5 o’clock traffic.

With this team, we won’t lose because of “Alabama Basketball.” If we lose, the other team will have earned it. This team doesn’t quit and doesn’t back down. Final four coming or the guys “will die trying.”

SDSU is fairly solid on the defensive end, but we are better. Plus they can't score as efficiently as us. I like George's call....

So remember folks in here thinking Saban deliberately called out Oats? I hate to say I told you so but I told you so. Nick doesn't keep up with that shite.

Saban today:

“There’s nothing to clarify,” Saban said. “I don’t watch basketball coaches’ press conferences. How many years have I been coaching? Never watched one, never listen to what other people say. That was strictly about our program and what we do. It had nothing to do with anybody else. I don’t make any comments about anybody else.

“We hope the basketball team does really, really well.”

Then Nate commented:

“He and I talked that night,” Oats said. “I didn’t take it that way at all. I’ve got a ton of respect for Coach. I said in my opening press conference when I got hired at Alabama that he may be the best coach for team sports in modern sports history. When I was a high school coach back at Romulus, I had a whole section of Saban quotes in our practice plan. I still have it. I probably use them a little less now that we're here had, and they get plenty of Saban quotes just in the regular media.

“I’ve got a ton of respect for him. He has been tremendously supportive of our program since he has got here. He says it all the time. He wants the entire athletic department to do well. He has been at multiple games this year. He came yesterday to speak to the team. He was good. Players loved it. He and I have got a great relationship, and I’m really thankful for the support that he has given us and continues to give us with the basketball program at Alabama.”

#OTD in 2013, Romulus won the Class A Basketball State Title. @nate_oats was Romulus's head coach, and after the state final, he left to join the coaching staff at Buffalo. Oats is now the head coach at @AlabamaMBB, where the Crimson Tide will play in the Sweet 16!
