We’ve had a good run fellas and we’re not done yet but you can see the end from here. We’re no longer dominant, struggling to win on the road and letting a suspect A&M team take us to the wire at home. We are still getting excellent talent in the program, but they are no longer receiving the best coaching from the best assistants. Our secondary has been a penalty machine the last 2 seasons and we can’t cover a good receiver with a blanket. The offense is still holding up pretty well thanks to Bryce and Gibbs but it’s hamstrung in the upstairs booth by BOB. Saban hasn’t lost it, he’s just run out of guys he knows can coach. Hell, he’s 70 years old, most of his peers have hung it up. Golding is a fricking joke. His defense just got torched for 52 points, the most Bama has given up in 115 years. Let that sink in. The decline and fall of the dynasty is in the early stages but it is indeed here.

Agreed

I wouldn’t mind seeing Saban walk away while the job is still attractive to an innovative coach.

I usually downvote posts like this, but this is well thought out.

This is Bryce's last season, and then who will we be?

Our defense is hot garbage every year. Our offense looks great, but it's not really better than a handful of other teams.

Perhaps, but bear in mind that all the records for the last 100 years (actually longer) bear no relevance to the game as it's played today. If you look at Joe Namath's stats, you would swear that he couldn't start for Vanderbilt today. It's not so, but the game has changed that much. Scoring 52 points today is as common as scoring 21 points or less was back then. We are in need of better offensive and defensive coordinators, though, in my opinion. I think we may have reached the point that stability no longer outweighs the need for change.

And lost. So this year with almost everyone back on D and some key transfers on O, it’s revenge tour time. Go get that title. But there’s a problem. We’re about 3 plays from 4-3. And still have to face State, Ole Miss, LSU, and Auburn. Atlanta is not even a lock anymore. We are slipping and the evidence is right in front of you.

I feel beyond strongly that Coach Saban has earned the right to say when to call it quits. Yes, the program has slipped, no question. But Coach still believes he can right the ship. I’m beyond frustrated with the coordinators, mainly our DC Golding. He is a person that cannot adjust, cannot coach, and in 5 years, no one has tried to hire him away. My God, Oklahoma has Ted Roof and he is considered a better coordinator when he is terrible himself. Golding, however, is a different level of bad. Jimmy Lake is available. Yes I know his circumstances on why he was fired, but I am so tired of seeing us absolutely blasted by offenses when we have probably the most talent of any Saban D with the probable exception of 2016’s personnel. We cannot stop anyone on D anymore except teams we greatly out talent. And I am sick and tired of hearing “offenses have the rules bent their way. You can’t have D’s like 2011 anymore.” Well maybe or maybe not, but I by God know we can have one worlds better than I saw out there tonight. Our defense was an absolute embarrassment tonight. Golding should be arrested for stealing money from the university (his paycheck).

It’s not just coaching. The safeties on this team have no cover skills and they are slow, slow, slow. Recruiting rankings are shite. Any one that camps at Bama gets the sudden Bama bump.

Starting to believe this after tonight.

Moore, for whatever reason, has regressed terribly. I know he previously had a back injury, but he cannot cover anyone anymore. Hellams looks like he couldn’t beat most players in a foot race. He is good in run support, but terrible in pass coverage. Battle has been nonexistent. Boys, we were badly outcoached tonight.

To add more fuel to the fire, outside of BY, our only real playmakers on offense the past 2 seasons have been transfers.

Saban used to always be dialed in to the game on the sideline. He was Always jumping screaming throwing something chewing someone etc. In the last 2-3 years if you have noticed he just stands there and looks lost at times. Our body doesn’t last forever and obviously he is past his peak.

He also has proved he’s the best all time and got more money than he will ever know what to do with. He’s not hungry anymore and no one can blame him. We will always fondly remember him and all these good years for the rest of our lives. We need to try to enjoy the twilight of his career because whenever he decides to quit we will really miss him and all the things he brought us.

The game is changing rapidly and change is hard for everyone but especially the older we get. I think he still got 1 more in the tank and more if he can surround himself with the right people. Either way it’s been an epic journey with coach and one no one may ever experience again. Thanks coach

You seem to be correct. A lot of people don't want to look beyond the Ws and Ls, but this loss has been in the making for a while. There is no reason we should give up 52 points to anyone short of the 1999 St. Louis Rams, ESPECIALLY not Tennessee. When it's not Golding, it's BOB and when it's not BOB, it's Golding. The losses haven't accumulated yet, but everyone can see it coming.

I hate looking like this so much more than I hate losing

I agree with you and some of the other statements in this thread. The 2020 season was a blessing in the middle of 5 rough seasons (2018 - 2022). On defense, Tennessee's Jalin Hyatt didn't receive proper adjustments to defend him. On offense, Tennessee linebacker Jeremy Banks (#33) did a great job tackling and applying pressure.

Bama's OL wasn't able to assert its will, and it's been rare that Alabama's defense has played to the familiar, elite standard that lasted through the 2017 season.

As for the 52 points, I don't get hung on that. Both teams missed manageable opportunities to extend drives or score points, so Tennessee could have scored more. Also, Clemson scored 44 in 3 quarters (including a pick six) against the 2018 team. 2018 Clemson or 2019 LSU could have both scored more than they did to win.

I have enjoyed the run and side with people that are not optimistic that true responsibility and accountability for the shakiness since 2019 and particularly since last season will be realized by changing some philosophies and staffing.

My opinion, which is probably shite, is Saban needs to scrap his defensive philosophy and reform it to what most NFL teams are now doing to stop the long, explosive plays. More zone, everything in front of you, make them drive 10 plus plays every single possession defenses. You can still pressure and blitz, but the safeties and corners can’t get torched all day like has become the norm.

The days of defensive domination are over. The rules have been skewed to favor the offense 100% of the time. He did well in bringing in Kiffin and Sark. He just needs to adapt better of defense.

If the mush rush was the game plan yesterday, it was a shite game plan. Man to man with safeties constantly matched up on 11 was a nightmare and we never adjusted. How does that happen? Golding has to go.

If Saban wants to be kinder and gentler, then hire some pricks to install some discipline and motivate these kids. It has been hard to watch the decline in attitude and soft play. Nobody fears us anymore because we aren’t scary. We are average and weak. To let TN get 4-6 extra yards on effort alone after they should have been wrapped up and dropped for a loss is sickening to watch. They moved the pile on nearly every run. Truly a sad loss.

1 point win over Texas on a last second FG
4 point win over a&m that came down to the last play in the end zone
3 point loss to Tennessee on a last second FG
I don’t care if we beat the piss out of Vanderbilt and Utah State, any mediocre team take this team down to the wire. The defense has been terrible since 2018 and spare me the game has changed stuff Clemson and UGA still manage to play defense. This is what decline looks like. Yes I remember close games and losses every year but this is getting common place now.
