Alabama is literally a few players in the secondary and some improvement in the offense from being a contender. There is still plenty of talent on the roster.

What does that have to do with making a recruiting pitch?

Ryan Williams finishes ranked #8 overall.

I was saying that we can still get a few transfers in this spring portal window and be a contender in 2024. If DeBoer can win instantly in 2024 he will have instant credibility and be able to sign a great class in his first full recruiting cycle. What I meant was, I hope that he can add a few more players in the spring portal to help our team be able to win big in 2024.

Oh OK. Yeah if one of these 5* freshman DBs steps in as a quality starter from day 1 and we can add one or two more from the portal we are set up really well. DeBoer would have to be way out of his depth to frick up a roster as strong as what he inherited, and so far I've seen nothing to suggest he is. I mean fricking Les Miles won a title with the program he inherited from Saban before he ran it into the ground and I just can't imagine DeBoer being another Les. He certainly does not seem like a man who eats grass and becomes aroused at the thought of a fullback lead blocking for a 4 yard gain. Recruiting is going to be fine.

Exactly. As much as I hated to see Saban retire, he left the program in very good shape. Auburn is also not completely rebuilt under Freeze which will make things easier for DeBoer.

I think I read Jatavis played QB at Stone Mountain, GA.
That's just a stones throw from Parkview, Brookwood, Grayson, etc., etc., that entire area, and 1 hour around that perimeter is LOADED with talent.
I've never heard of him though, and seems like another DeBear is either a genius or over his skis deal.

I was listening to a podcast where one of the services believed he would be No.1 player in the country in next years class which is wild for a WR.
They went on to say that they considered making him No.1 in this class. He good
I caught an interview with Williams on Ryan Fowler show the other day, he sounds like a really cool guy with a big personality and future star vibes for sure.

This is the best season possible to have freshmen play because the playbook, terminology, etc., it's all changing dramatically.
Everyone is a freshman this year. Knowing the calls, and the terminology, and positions it's what probably keeps some older less talented guys on the field.
If there was ever a time to play young players this is it, learn the system, terminology, etc. and put the best player on the field.
Also, if physically developed enough Corner is one of the easier positions to play early. Maybe an older guy like Domani moves to safety and put the young pups at corner, and Moore at star or "husky" I think Wommack calls it ?

Common terms under Saban included Star, Sam, Jack, Mike and Money.
Those terms will be replaced with Bandit, Sting, Wolf, Husky and Rover under Wommack.

I dont like it either, but I can live with everything but the Husky. It's purely coincidence that Wommack has a position named after DeBears old school, but surely they will change that ?
Even without the connection its cringy bad. Rename it all.

In honor of Saban they should use the old terminology for defensive positions

I can deal with bandit and rover.

I vote we change them to 80's wrestler names.
Hulk, Sting, Nature Boy, Macho man, Luger.

Bandit -- Defensive end - think Justin Eboigbe. This player can stand up at the line of scrimmage and rush the passer, whether it’s the defensive end or edges such as Chris Braswell and Dallas Turner lining up on opposite sides with two down linemen in between them. (Nose tackle and defensive tackle go by the same names under Wommack.)
Sting — The weakside linebacker, which will be Jihaad Campbell. The Mike (middle) linebacker, Deontae Lawson, has the same name under Wommack.
Wolf — The strongside linebacker/edge defender that Alabama fans know as Sam, which was Dallas Turner’s role last season.
Husky — The Star position, which was manned by Malachi Moore last season.
Rover — The strong safety or Jaylen Key’s position last year. There are times when the strong or free safety is a single-high safety, but the Rover mostly plays closer to the formation and has more man coverage responsibilities.
Also of note, Wommack’s system utilizes a starting boundary cornerback and a field cornerback: The boundary corner takes the short side of the field from the hash mark to the sidelines while the field corner covers the wide side from the hash mark where the ball is spotted. This is a stark difference from Saban defenses that played the two cornerbacks exclusively on the left or right side.

The fact that we're going with a more common college field v. boundary approach also changes some of our calculus on the secondary. Under Saban, Alabama needed to have corners that could handle both roles in coverage even if it wasn't defined positionally. There are coverage realities of being on field side or boundary side - especially with college hashes - that informs how you need to play a coverage.
Going to a scheme where one guy will always play with short-side rules and the other with wide-side rules is probably beneficial to breaking in new corners quicker.
