Hey PAC12, How’s that Alliance working out for you?

I still remember when the 3 commissioners got together on their self-righteous soap box to talk about a gentleman’s handshake agreement based on shared values, dignity, respect, friendship, and traditions. Look at those unwashed barbarians of the SEC raiding other conferences. We have no specific contract for anything, but we stand united against this unchecked aggression in our civilized world.
And then the BIG raids the PAC12 and sets it up for collapse. What a joke. Here’s the reality:
- Any conference would’ve taken TX and OU. You’d be fired for not taking the call.
- The BIG is a competitive conference and wants to win and make more money. Stop acting like you are morally superior cultural elites.
- The BIG used this agreement to create a false sense of calm and delay the CFP expansion to help FOX be at the table. It also covered up the BIG’s true intentions — raid the PAC.
What a joke.

Pretty sure this is what happened. The SEC made the move to get UTx and OU. So, the rest of them are afraid of getting left behind. So they all agreed to meet to decide what should be done about it. All agreed something should be done, but they couldn't agree on what to do. The Big 10 then turned on the Pac 12, because they were afraid of becoming irrelevant.

That is exactly what happened.
But the big mean sec was really really mean for taking ou/Tex first, while the big10 made a response thread.
I think the race is over for the sec.
Any more additions by the big 10 is still an overreach and reactive.
Sec added the teams we wanted and we don’t want to split the pie by 18 or 20.
If, for some reason is expanded, it will not include teams outside of the Eastern and Central time zones.
It will include money makers that make football sense while the other four leagues just want to keep their leagues.
Did you ever think the big12 would seek cincy and UCF?

Wouldn't the same be true for when USC and UCLA approached the Big 10 about joining???
I think expansion is great for College Football. The alliance was a loose agreement and Warren would have been fired if he didn't take the calls from Los Angeles just as Sankey would have been fired for not talking to OU and Texas.
The Big 10 is headed for 24 teams quicker than most think. 4 divisions of 6 teams, West, Mountain, Midwest, and East. They will have a semifinal and Title game to package to the TV networks and the next TV contract will be double the new contract for 2023.

I’m not criticizing Warren for taking USC/UCLA. I’m criticizing Warren for claiming the SEC did something wrong through expansion—they would’ve made the same decision (and did with USC UCLA when the chance came forward).

If this is what Kevin Warren intended all along--it's certain possible, although I'm not convinced someone so new had this kind of a master plan--that's some ninja shite.
Kliavkoff's instinct was for expansion. He should have followed that instinct. Makes you wonder if USC and UCLA's president told him not to push it, knowing already that they were in preliminary talks with the B1G. If that's true, Kliavkoff was in an impossible position. He was being manipulated from both outside and within.

The Pac-12 is a dead conference walking. They sat back with their arrogance and made every possible wrong decision you could make over the last decade and will now suffer the consequences.

The race isn't over for the SEC as long North Carolina and Virginia are potential options. I don't see SEC expansion without including those states.

If streaming is more prevalent and Television is becoming less important, doesn’t regionality figure back in to the equation?
I feel that the old rivalries are the only thing that is going to drive football.
I just don’t see how UNC or NC State vs LSU or Missouri will drive views.
I get killed here on this website, a lot, for experimental maps of the best rivalries we had, but regionality is going to be key. I focus a lot on the big12 and old big east.
They have great rivalries that were killed by TV contracts.
Regional rivalries is what can revive these dead conferences.
The old leagues were the best football we had. Erase a few schools and you have have 6 ten-team leagues.

A revival of the old big east with the addition of Penn state and notre dame would actually make a great league.
Get the old ones back
Old big 10
Old sec
Old ACC
Old pac10
Variant of big12
Variant of big east
You can still have conference championship games that to determine the top six. Top two get a bye (probably sec and big10).

Well, I don't think we'll be going to back to the old days, but North Carolina and Virginia are regional, contiguous states. They're also some of the most populous states not represented in the big 2 conferences. UNC is a television draw.
Does UNC have SEC rivals? No. Would series against South Carolina, Tennessee, and Kentucky draw interest? Absolutely.
I think we'd even allow NC State or Duke to tag along if it meant getting North Carolina.
I don't really want to expand again, but I assume it's inevitable. And if we have to, then UNC has to be our top target.

Everything you need to know about the B1G's hubris could be seen in their virtue signaling handling of the 2020 season.

Folks are busy talking about how much money the Big 10 is going to get now.
It will be interesting what they are saying when the Rutger's women's volleyball team has to fly out to Los Angeles for a match. That is a lot of wear and tear just in travel time alone for student athletes. Yeah, the football players are probably going to be getting paid. Maybe the men's basketball players.
Regardless, just in basketball season alone, you are talking team's flying from one side of the country to the other and back again. Over. And over. And over. This is going to wear kids out.
Big 10 gobbles up the better AAC teams, fine, they are mostly in the same time zone. The PAC 12 picks the MWC bones clean? Again, all reasonably close. This, however, is going to be murder on youngsters who have a lot on their plate as is.

And still will never win the NC in football, basketball or baseball

Agree that the money is going to be easier than the logistics. If there's anything that causes this expansion to falter, it'll be logistics. It's what makes me think that B1G westward expansion isn't over.

Most likely not in baseball but they will win Natty's sooner rather than later in football and basketball.
Baseball is brutal in the Big 10 in February, March and April. Here in Central Ohio it doesn't warm up for baseball until May. No top recruit wants to play in a snow flurry...lol.
Not sure why the SEC is hot on basketball...you have one program...granted they are one of the Bluebloods...but they haven't done much with Calipari at the helm. 1 National Title?

Warren is business savvy...he didn't understand the loyalty to the fans and athletes in college compared to the pros when he started but he does now.
