And look at them now. The Big 12 is a corpse
The big 12 is a corpse, yes, but that has less to do with Nebraska vs OU ending and more to do with the homewrecker we just invited into the conference.
Texas teams need to all be in their own little conference where they can bask in each other's arrogance.

Only one annual game is a mess. Fully half the teams or more in the league will get an annual matchup that isn't their fans biggest game of the year.
Oklahoma-Texas
Ole Miss-Miss State
Alabama-Auburn
Georgia-Florida
That's like the extent of teams that I think would get their #1 choice. Everybody else would get an annual game that isn't their biggest game and almost all of the 8 teams that did get their first choice also have another big game that they'd be giving up too.

I am not sure why some think LSU is squarely behind a 3-6 schedule. I was told by a TAF employee that Scott Woodward (LSUAD) has told no one what he thinks about this. Did I miss a quote from SW?

OU-TX
GA-FL
Both of these games would be scheduled by each university as an “OOC” annual game at neutral site.
All rivalries dictated by SEC schedule format shall be played at home-home stadiums.

Honestly y'all should stop playing Tech, there's nothing to gain but everything to lose. They're a G5 at this point
Under the current coach, yes.
But not under the 5 previous coaches to that.
They have recent division championships and Orange Bowl victories.
Not to mention they are a perfect 10-0 against about a quarter of the SEC teams the past 20 seasons. If they are G5, what is that saying about the bottom third of the 16 team conference? We should drop them?

Having 4 bullshite non-conference games against scrub schools is just not fun. Every college football fan in America is going to suffer through a shite slate so fricking Vandy can get to 6 wins and get into a bowl game.

Sounds like you should fire your AD and hire someone who listens to your fans.
If UGA can schedule 2 to 3 P5 OOC conference games, then so can everyone else. It is called work. Tell your AD to try some of it.

Some secondary rivalries? Isn’t it ALL secondary rivalries?

I hope we keep our rivalry going. I enjoy having a free W every season.

So, this notion of being in the same conference and not playing every team in the conference often has always been a thing in the SEC
However, this same argument can be made about any conference, so it isn't specific to the SEC.

I also don't understand how it makes sense from a tv perspective. There are a lot of long-standing games between teams with huge fan bases. Replacing Tennessee with (no offense) Vanderbilt, Kentucky, Missouri, South Carolina, etc. is just dumb. No one is going to watch those game and that's effectively what they'd be doing
No one gives a crap about bama vs Tennessee. We have been saying it for years.
People would care about Oklahoma vs bama though

That seems like a terrible decision.
What are the theoretical permanent opponents?
Alabama/Auburn
Arkansas/Missouri
Florida/Georgia
Kentucky/USC
LSU/A&M
OM/MSU
Oklahoma/Texas
Tennessee/Vanderbilt

and i want to have played georgia more than once in a literal decade and to have them actually come to college station. that still hasnt happened largely because we got saddled with a schedule set up to protect your and georgias games
The average fan for those schools doesn't care about that game (or any of the crappy games that you're advocating for). Why kill what works, so we can get a meaningless game?

A lot of teams already have 2-3 P5 OOC games a year starting in 2-3 years. Alabama, Georgia, Florida off the top of my head.

Do away with divisions and go 3-6.
Getting rid of the divisions would be a mistake.

i may have read this wrong but apparently ESPN isnt even giving us more money for the proposed 9th game. is that true? that seems insane but if true then yea, the 9 game schedule is dead
If that's the case then, yes, it's probably dead as an option.
P.S. I still think four divisions at either eight or nine games for the conference slate makes the most sense (three divisional, three rotational, and somewhere between zero to three rivalry games... if needed).
SEC West: Arkansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Texas
SEC South: LSU, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, and Texas A&M
SEC North: Bama, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Vandy
SEC East: Auburn, Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina
3 divisional games, 0-3 rivalry games (as needed), and 3 rotational games. Personally, as a compromise to those wanting the eight-game schedule, having a 3/1/4 format (and the divisions) sounds fine to me. You can either go with the two best teams (out of the entire conference) for the SEC Championship, or you could add a semi-final game to determine the SEC Championship (either as divisional winners or as the Top 4) participants.
P.P.S. In a 3/1/4 format, the rivalry games would be:
Auburn v. Bama
Texas v. Texas A&M
Georgia v. Tennessee
LSU v. Arkansas
Kentucky v. Missouri
South Carolina v. Vandy
Florida v. Mississippi State
Oklahoma v. Ole Miss
(Obviously, the games could be adjusted, but I just tossed-up a format that prioritized the existing rivalries followed by pairing the closest universities by distance, etc.)
If the semi-finals for the conference become an option: Rotate the semi-final games between Atlanta, Dallas, Nashville, and New Orleans with the SEC Championship in Atlanta, or flip-it with the semi-finals being in Atlanta and Dallas with the SEC Championship rotating between Atlanta, Dallas, Nashville, and New Orleans.
P.P.P.S. You could have the semi-final games as home games for the first and second-seeded teams, too.

his would not only be logically stupid but would pretty much kill the SEC as we've known it for nearly 100 years. It is baffling why anyone would think this is the best method instead of having 3 permanent opponents.
Agreed this is some really stupid shite. I grew up an SEC fan and there is too much history to just throw it away with 1-7
