Or it is a Heisman winning rb with the most yards in a season in SEC history and a likely NFL Hall of Famer.
Most LBs in the 80s were 225 or bigger.

Give it up, dude. Herschel was the best CFB RB in history and everybody perhaps outside of your house knows it.
That's your opinion sir, last time I checked your word isn't law so we can debate who is the best all day long but for what it's worth I'm not even saying D.Henry is the best I believe Bo Jackson is but for some Georgia fans to just come in here and say Herschel is the definitive best and we shouldn't even be having a discussion is homerism and pure ignorance at best.

It's amazing how far some of these guys go lol. First they brag that Herschel made the offense centered around him then in the next breathe they complain that D. Henry had more weapons so his performance shouldn't count these guys are all over the place with their homerism

Henry is the best RB in modern SEC history, accounting for offensive changes to the game.

Herschel and Bo did it in run heavy, play action offenses with defenses built to stop the run first.

I think Henry's size, speed and power would have had him do well in the 80s and 90s, too. But, different eras and styles make it an impossible conversation to look at objectively.

i started to buy into his argument until you made this (should have been obvious to me at my age) point. you definitely are right about run first offenses. however, there is a fair argument to be made about how much stronger and faster things have gotten and how much more dominant the SEC has been vs the timeframe of the other guys.

Bo Jackson was objectively the most talented athlete ever. I can't argue against him in earnest, but in terms of a solid argument i would say Henry deserves a top 5 spot. and that is saying something. i know it's crimson colored lenses only to bring up the saban era + shaun alexander, but i mean DAMN we have had some world class rbs.

6’3” 240 is an SEC Linebacker. Walker in 80 was bigger than many linebackers in his era. Heck he weighed as much as some DE in his era.

If you’re saying it’s ignorant to call Herschel Walker the best RB in the history of CFB, you’re calling 95% of coaches, fans and writers ignorant. I’ll hang with that group and you continue to be you…….ignorant.

Its not just the opinion of UGA fans though. Thats the issue you are struggling with, the widespread acceptance of HW's elevated place in this discussion.

Is that your point? It wasnt mine.

The point is that it is easier to run the football when you are consistently throwing it at the same time.

It is harder to run the football when the defense has to prepare for 3 plays.

I did common opponents which is as close a comparison as you can make. It wasn't super close between them and, again, Henry had the better Oline. Add receiving stats and the gap widens.

Derrick Henry clearly had the best single season ever, and has the most highlight reel type runs. It's hard to believe a man that size can run so fast.

Bo & Walker played in a different era out of run centric offenses, and were just freaks of nature for their time.
Hershal Walker had the best career in the SEC, probably followed by Emmitt Smith

Earl Campbell great back. Not SEC.
Billy Sims another great back. Not SEC.
Cedric Benson Good back. Not SEC.
George Rogers Fantastic back. Not SEC.
Errick Miron Dope head joke. NOT SEC.
Adrian Peterson Great back. Not SEC.
Bo Jackson. Arguably the best not only for the SEC, but all time.

Herschel Walker
. My personal favorite. Damn good.

I'm saying it's ignorant to just say he is the best just because you heard that from a hundred pundits without forming your own opinion which is the whole purpose of having a debate. If you believe he is the best then more power to you but have that be your own opinion instead of just going off what you heard from some guy off ESPN. You understood that but you're in your feelings about this it seems. Again I state for what it's worth I do not believe the best RB is D. Henry I believe it's Bo Jackson but even though he is ahead of my time I formed that opinion on my own from watching videos of him not just because it's the stereotypical answer to the question.

Opinions can be skewed by many factors, but when an overwhelming majority of experts share the same opinion, those in the minority are most often, if not always, wrong. Take your opinion, for example.

WE have all formed our opinion and it has been said many times inside this thread. Our point is that our opinion can be backed by countless experts whose lives are centered around studying the game.

I have said it once and I will say it one more time.

I showed numerous links naming Herschel Walker the best SEC RB of all time. Can you find some (or even one) link showing Derrick Henry as the best RB of all time?

I have a pretty good idea why y'all keep ignoring this challenge, so what we are left with is Experts and a preponderance of neutral fans on this board saying Herschel Walker and Bo Jackson are the best.....and a bunch of homer Alabama fans saying Derrick Henry was the best.

Best Running Back in SEC History?

After carefully reviewing pages of discussion on this topic, I've concluded that Earl Campbell is the greatest running back in the history of the new beefed up SEC.

In the old regional SEC, I'll give the nod to Herschel Walker over Bo Jackson.

Yeah, Walker played against much smaller defenders than he would have faced against a modern team.

Defenders today are bigger, stronger and much more physical than they were in the 80s, and much of the 90's even.

Exactly...like in that '81 season, Georgia played against Clemson...their Nose Tackle was this tiny guy (William Perry). He was known for being undersized and not very athletic.

ETA..that is 2-time All-American Charlie Wysocki he is picking up in this pic. He is 6'0 and 200 pounds.

Nostalgia can be very powerful and affect the opinions of the most skilled and knowledgeable analyst. There have been many running backs to come through the SEC over the last 25-30 years who were just as physically gifted as Walker. However, due to the offenses they played in, did not get the same opportunities to tote the rock as Walker did.

Najee Harris is a prime example of this. Dude was a freak athlete and just might be the most talented RB Saban ever had at Alabama, but he played at a time where Alabama was airing out the football more than they were toting the rock. Despite this, however, he still managed to break the school's all-time career rushing record in a pass-oriented offense.
