I understand. The issues were with Nutt. Jackson was a redshirt freshman who would be another Robert Johnson had he stayed. He had an arm that was stronger than Jones who injured his in high school.
Under a normal coaching regime, Jackson would get the development he deserved. The 2002 and 2003 seasons would be different with Jackson at QB and Jones at WR with Richard Smith and George Wilson. Jackson could scramble and that makes the offense a true threat instead of Jones who can run but not throw.

Matt Jones not winning any individual awards or big games was a fireable offense. He won some games but anyone who watched those offenses understood it was lacking and they were never going allow Arkansas to be a threat in the SEC.
Jackson wasn't at Arkansas long enough to know what he could do but his potential as a QB was much higher than Jones but Nutt didn't want to work with him and so he transferred. Nutt was going to stick with Jones no matter what even if the second coming of Dan Marino showed up on campus.
Jones redshirt in 2001 was taken off when Nutt started SEC play at 0-3. It was a panicked decision as the 2000 recruiting class was a disaster and Nutt failed to get a QB that would replace Clint Stoerner. The next eight years would be nothing but a terrible display of a one dimensional terrible passing offenses.

Matt Jones was a beast who made terrible Arky teams look good. WTF are rambling about?

Yes the embarrassing game with UNLV that led 7-3 until the final seconds that involved a revolving door of QBs. I watched that game live and never seen an offense that bad. Then the rest of the year showed an offense that was an embarrassment until the Weber State game. But that was totally unnecessary as Nutt was the coach for three years and still had no replacement for Stoerner.
Jones wouldn't start for any other SEC team. His arm wasn't strong enough and in a sense was never a true QB that could drop back and throw darts. He was a job security player and that was all Nutt was concerned about.

Terrible teams that had some first round talent? They weren't elite level but they weren't devoid of talent.

His arm actually was pretty damn strong for what he was. He was a true dual threat way ahead of his time.
Put him on some of today's teams and he is a Heisman winner. That guy was a freak of nature and one of Arkansas' all time greats. You really should stop bad mouthing him like this.. Super rare talent. He was like a combo of Cam Newton and Johnny Manzeil basically. One of the most exciting players i have ever watched stuck on a bad team.

No he wasn't. He said that he injured his throwing arm in high school. He had the option of surgery but he was told that surgery could weaken his arm and so he passed. He was never a dual threat or his stats would say otherwise and even in that time his passing states were below average.
Newton and Manziel were much better passers than Jones. Jones only advantage was his speed but that still wasn't enough to win any big games unlike the other who were better balanced.
Unless Jones switched to WR before the draft, he was going undrafted and one of those concerns was his arm strength. That doesn't sound like a heisman trophy contender on any team. Jones was an athlete that played QB but not a true QB.

Disagree strongly on this. Manzeil was not a better passer he just played in a better system for his abilities and had an amazing talent at WR to throw 50/50 jump balls to.
Matt Jones would have flourished in a modern spread offense or hurry up.

Jones was recruited as an athlete coming out of high school. Most were recruiting him as a WR but Nutt told him he could play QB. Jones was the better athlete but Manziel was the superior QB. He played in a better system but regardless, he had almost 4,000 yards in the air and 1400 on the ground. Jones couldn't put up with that kind of passing stats with a weaker arm no matter what system he played in. If the NFL scouts thought so highly of him as a QB then he wouldn't switch to WR playing for Jacksonville.
Jones would play WR in any modern offense.

Magic on his feet but that was it. He never had the arm strength to be an elite level QB at the college level and this is why he was recruited as an athlete and had he gone to Oklahoma where it was one of his choices, he would play WR with zero possibility of playing QB.
I watched him live over the years and his arm strength wasn't impressive at all. He can't throw darts like Ryan Mallett or even current starter Jefferson can. He simply never had enough zip on passes to ever have a career in the NFL as a QB. He was by definition a postionless player whose only chance of success in the pros was at WR.

Ryan Mallet wasn't half the college qb that Jones was.

Tua and Chase are too high. No WR should be higher than Smith. Laughable. Barrett Jones should be higher. Mac Jones should be somewhere in the Top 50...based on GOAT 2020 all SEC opponents season alone. I wouldn't argue with Tebow, Newton and Burrow as the top 3...all NC winning All American Heisman winners that had huge seasons.

Sure the first 3,000 yard passer in school history and dozens of other Arkansas passing records while supporting a 5.3 40 yard dash.

Percy Harvin recked the SEC for 3 years and was the most lethal weapon on a team that won 2 natties. Not being on this list is criminal.

Rex Grossman deserves consideration. He was robbed of the Heisman when the y gave it to Crouch

Auburn with 1 player on the list but 2 undefeated natty's and :13 away from a third, not bad.
