Academia vs the real world is unpractical vs. practical. I learned more in one month on the job than 4 years in college. I now make more money than the average mid-career Vanderbilt grad (according to these worthless report/rankings) and went to a state school. Academic rankings and smack talk are meaningless.


Thsi isn't rue, though, and I'm surprise that y'all seem to think it is.

Once you get a job it becomes all about the ability to do the job.

But if an employer has two applicants for a job and one has a degree from Georgia and the other one has a degree from Harvard, he is going to pick the applicant from Harvard 10 out of 10 times.

So, yes. Academic standing does matter. I think even inside the SEC...say, Vandy applicant verses Alabama would matter. If you are looking for an engineer you will pick GT over Georgia, and so forth.
