Josh Niblett, the football coach who won six state titles at Hoover in Alabama, is coming to Georgia.

Gainesville, a Class 6A school that has struggled since its glory days with coach Bruce Miller and quarterback Deshaun Watson, is announcing its new head coach Monday at 9 a.m., Gainesville athletic director Adam Lindsey said Friday morning.

The Red Elephants have gone 18-25 over the past four seasons, the past two while competing in Class 7A. Gainesville is moving back to 6A next season.

I mean….I could lead Hoover to 6 state titles. Only reason he’s resigning is because Thompson is becoming a state power.

Have to agree with you there. It’s not the best look to tuck tail and run to a different state after their recent struggles against Thompson. They’re 2-6 in the last 8 games in the series, including 4 consecutive playoff losses.

Have to give Thomson their due though. Ten years ago, it would have been hard to imagine a team coming to prominence in Hoover’s own region and dominating like Thompson has.

This one makes it sound like he might be chasing the $ after securing a state pension in Alabama. I don’t know how the Georgia HS coaching salaries compare to Alabama’s. Article mentions Texas is doing the same thing.

Georgia's mega-deals for high school head coaches may have just scored another significant coup from one of the top programs in the country.

To be honest Hoover just hasn’t been doing as good in general lately compared to their super good teams. Lost to trussville 2 years ago by 6 touchdowns in the regular season right after they got beat by a 2A school.

That makes sense. I know a few teachers/admin that retired with an Alabama pension, then took a position in TN and did the same thing. It’s not a bad career path if you can cope with a bunch of shithead kids

Hopefully Tuscaloosa County can get out of the basement. They’ve finally got a good coach. It’s tough when Hoover and Thompson are in your region. If they can’t win with this coach they should move to 6A.
