JLee and crew had a good question on call in this Sunday regarding recruiting. What is most important to a recruit, and rank them:

Head coach, NIL, playing time, proximity to home, recruiting(area) coach/position coach, overall fit.

While it was agreed some recruits valued some things differently, in general it was head coach/nil as the top two factors.

Just kind of confirms in this age of NIL, as well as portal and how quickly a head coach can turn a program, the position or recruiting area coach now has far less of an impact on where a kid goes.

You new to this thread? Probably half of it is off topic and beyond pointless.

He said one of our 5* WR recruits is underrated... in a recruiting thread...

Then you show up complaining about being off topic, while asking about the DC in the recruiting thread...

Jordan Ross. He grew up an Auburn fan, but Freeze didn’t really pursue him, neither did Saban for some reason. He’s pretty skinny. Maybe that’s why.
Yea I was wondering that as well. I saw that the DE went to Tenn and there was another guy, a giant OL named McRoy that went to Oregon. Wondered if we pursued them given we could really use more edge rushers and could always use a tackle.

The is like 360 though which as an 18 year old, you can't be 360+ and in shape at that size.

I've seen him play and I can't believe the kid had the offers he had. He doesn't look the slightest bit athletic. He is just huge and mauls smaller kids. He was from Clay-Chalkville, right?

ETA: Yeah that's the kid from CC. He is 6'8" and 360lbs. Still don't understand how he is rated so high. He is 171 on the 247 composite and like 14 or 15 in national OTs. So looks like he took a tumble down the rankings because I know he was at one point like the number 3 OL in the country.

Yea - any top 10 kid from AL, you have to wonder why if AU/AL don't pursue him hard...

I've consistently heard he was just big and unathletic but he maintained a 4* ranking throughout the process. We had several guys like DJ Barber who couldn't shake the 3* rankings even with exceptional seasons and playing great in the playoffs and state championship games. I truly believe that they just forget about certain guys, or just have a fixed ranking based on height and potential.

Barber is an intriguing one to me as well Johnny. Coaches were high on him early on same as Auburn recruiting fellas. Heard a good explanation by Jhead, he said yeah his 40 time is slow. But linebackers dont run 40 yards, and Barber is excellent at seeing and anticipating, which means he is a step quicker than any lineman trying to get a block on him....just ask KJ Lacey.

We didn’t think he was a great fit attitude wise. I’m pretty close with several of Clay’s coaches. They all felt the same way. He gets his attitude right and the sky is the limit, if he doesn’t he won’t be much.

I think it's a situation where he could turn out to be a very solid player and remember he's a high 3* and there's a big spread on 3*s... the last 4* LB is 33rd and he is 49th. Versus our other top LB recruits (top 15 LBs) you can see a difference. Just from viewing the tape, if I compare him to say Joe Philips... Philips is bigger while also looking somewhat more fluid/faster. On the other hand, Riddick is similar in size but runs like a WR... the guy is a freak of nature who is returning punts and such.

3* Barber - standout player facing good competition. Would love to have him. Good speed but maybe not elite. Fills gaps hard. A little stiff.
High 4* Philips - looks really dang good... big. faster than he should be for his size. Very fluid
5* Riddick - Holy **** that guy is quick... wait why is he returning punts - he just took that PR to the apartments... what is this tape!?

As Reed should if he has a relationship with the players. If we want him back one day I want him to be a savage on the trail

He got schooled bad in that all-star competition that I believe was in Florida. He looked terrible.

KJ Britt's little brother schooled him all night in a real game when I saw him. And Keenan is still a sophomore in HS.

I really like Waller. I think the stuff about him being short is overblown though he's slightly shorter than ideal - looks about 6'2". See the below photo from the AL/MS all star game. Also look how long his arms hang. He has length which helps a shorter DE. Build reminds me of a less gym starish Carl Lawson.

He is strong enough to hold the edge + quick enough to collapse down and make plays he shouldn't. He's very bendy/laterally quick and hard to get a block on, which when you combine that with strength is a tough combo to deal with. He's also very fast with a motor - tackles a WR screen to the opposite side of the field fast. He'd be a 5* if he were 6'4" IMO. I wouldn't be surprised at all to see him getting a good bit of PT this year.

Based on some comments we don’t have to worry about TReed, he didn’t do well in recruiting anyway. Am I doing this right?
