The only guys I enjoy watching are freshman, Hunter and the PSU WR.

Hell, maybe when these guys are Seniors we’ll go 6-6.

I honestly expected what this is if Thorne didn't improve. The team has improved. They just haven't won.

Wins and losses matter for sure, but I see the improvement.

I don’t. I see regression. We were a better team last year.

We’ll have to disagree here.

We had better players that were Upperclassmen last year. Especially on Defense.

The UPPERCLASSMEN have gotten worse.

Outside of KLS, McLeod, Hunter, Faulk & Lee... The True Freshmen are the best players.

The Seniors have played worst than anyone because they've regressed...

Scott gets picked on the most in a secondary full of freshmen
Fairweather & Lewis have more drops than catches
Luke Deal...smh
Asante can hardly even see the field over Riddick
None of the DLine stand out except Faulk & Blocton

The upperclassmen just can't finish.

Cole Cubelic on his podcast added a few more to the list. Not just for poor play but embarrassing effort. If I counted right all but one were upperclassmen and a few were transfers.

At this point I’m more worried that the culture of the upperclassmen (many of whom are from programs that frankly don’t care as much about football) is rubbing off on the underclassmen.

It is a lot to do with "WANT TO" and a lot of these guys don't have it. It's GLARINGLY obvious.

You are dead right throughout this thread. I question the effectiveness of our culture council or whatever. Freeze said in last weeks presser that it is hard to teach his freshmen by pointing to leaders- upperclassmen that are doing what they are supposed to.

Any simpleton should be able to see this.

At the end of the day, PLAYERS MAKE PLAYS. Hugh has put this team in a position to win every week. The PLAYERS have to go win it. And they can't/don't.

Asante had 7 tackles and 2 sacks vs. Missouri. Your premise doesn't exactly line up with reality.

Here are the last 3 games (since that is when Riddick started getting actual playing time):

Asante: 16 tackles, 2 sacks
Riddick: 12 tackles, 1 sack

Riddick has been fine and has made a few nice plays, but half this thread is just you guys glossing Freshmen for routine plays. I'm listening to the call-in shows and you have dude's on there talking up Malcolm Simmons as if he's dropping 150 yards a game. He is putting up ~40-50 yard games. Again, nice looking kid with upside, but that doesn't constitute him being "one of the best players on the team".

I went back and watched the Missouri highlights today. Literally every bad play we had on defense, when they had big plays, keionte was covering. He was shockingly bad. He needs to sit.

To me “improvement” isn’t the issue. We are clearly a better offensive team and haven’t seen much drop off from Ron Roberts D last year. We just don’t know how to win. That’s a coaching and culture thing. Freeze even said it himself in the presser. They are playing not to lose. Mindset and attitude is everything.

Ok, in year 2, the team still doesn’t know how to win. Seems like figuring out how to win would be the single largest area where you would want to see improvement.

I mean we can talk about this stat and that stat and write pages long posts about what players are in what class, but when your still losing, I mean, that’s the only thing at the end of the day that matters.

But we’re close, look at this stat and this area where we are young. Ok, maybe they’ll turn it around. Maybe.

Other than Hunter,

how many JRs & Srs have been on this team 3 or more years?

So typically when we are going to the portal we are not getting the cream of the crop, we are getting guys who usually don't start from the team that they are leaving. So our JRs & Srs aren't leaders that we thought they were.

It will be up to the SO, RFR & FR will have to be the leaders going forward.

Next year will have to be the year that improvement is shown or Freeze will be out. We will have to see these Fr step up in the leadership roles. We will have concerns along the line but hopefully those redshirt linemen will have put on some weight and be able to step up.
