I watch a lot of college basketball, would probably be considered a “Sicko”. Stayed up last night watching UC Irvine beat UC Riverside by almost 30, that’s a dangerous mid major by the way. But yes, I know how Auburn compares to other teams in college basketball. Last night we didn’t look like a top 15 team at all. Looked sloppy, too many mistakes and getting outrebounded by one of the worst rebounding teams in the conference. I’m sorry, can’t really get excited about beating a team we were projected to win by almost 20 points.

We had the spread covered early in the 2nd half, by almost 10 points, barely played the last 10 minutes and still were a bucket away from covering. You can do your woe is us thing or whatever but stop acting like we underperformed or didn't do what we were "projected" to do.

Thanks for proving my point that most Auburn fans don’t follow college basketball as closely as I do. The same issues we had last year are creeping up again this year. Lacking focus and discipline when we are up big, too many turnovers, players losing their control, and being dominated on the offensive glass by teams we clearly outmatch. The same thing happened in the Yale game. Sorry, that type of play we did last night will get us beat multiple times. Did you see UT, A&M or UAT let off the gas when they went up big? Nope, they continued to demolish their opponent. We just become complacent and sloppy and that’s a bad habit that needs to stop or we won’t reach our potential.

I like your posting here. We all agree you know game. But…
We are in the middle of a historic run. We have the best team in the country.
We have played a tough schedule and just now getting into conference play.
We have an opportunity to do great things this season.
We have 10 seniors. They know the system.
Also we didn’t play our A++ game. We get it. But we again blew out an opponent and the game never even felt in doubt from halftime to final buzzer. Missouri isn’t gonna win the conference or anything but they are a solid team and that’s how they play and will make most games look like.
The national pundits essentially are saying it’s Auburn vs the field for a natty. I’m personally not there yet but we have the team that can do it.
After a blowout win I’m gonna enjoy the win a bit with 17 conference games to go.

Plus you sound like me. However I lean towards the positive where you seem to lean towards the negative.
So what about our team do you like? lol

I can appreciate your opinions and knowledge of the game as well, even if we disagree with some things. Also, believe me, it may come across as some negative person who has no life, but I’m actually a reasonable person and have a life outside of sports, believe it or not ??. I’m just really passionate about college basketball since I played it and seeing some of our deficiencies from last year creep back up is frustrating to watch.
And I said before the season stated that we would be a top 5 team in the nation. But again, even though I know we were up by 25 with 13 minutes left in the game, we did what we did so many times last year and got us beat in the tournament that when our players feel like it’s over, they become sloppy and complacent and become undisciplined. Also, as a former basketball player, when I see a team like Mizzou outrebounded us on the offensive glass, that tells me the players are putting no effort in and are being lazy. That’s all rebounding is, it’s effort. It’s why you’ll see so many times a guard have more rebounds than a forward. That’s what gets me so frustrated with this team. I know their potential but the last 3 games they are becoming complacent.
Look at how UT, A&M, UAT, MSU and how they finished their games. They all left no doubt while our players looked no better than the intramural teams at Auburn with 10 minutes left in the game. I just have higher standards for this team when I know their potential but they just haven’t dropped their bad habits yet from last year to become consistently dominant.

Other teams demolishing teams while up big could just be part of their DNA. Our team does play little too loose up big although....
I am one of those that hate garbage time minutes when we are up regardless of sport because too often other teams get undeserved stat padding.
We just need to keep winning

Again, I know it can across as being negative on a message board but I’m just being honest with our deficiencies. In saying that though, when we are engaged and playing to our potential, we are unbeatable. The numbers don’t lie, our offensive and defensive efficiency is through the roof. I love that our team is always looking for the best shot and getting more teammates involved in the offense rather than just looking at one player to make a play. I love the defense swarming to disrupt the other team’s flow on offense, allowing us to make our big runs. However, again, my frustration with this team, and I think it’s a Bruce thing honestly, is that it’s not consistent throughout the game. If we even played 35 minutes of consistent play we would beat everyone by at least 25 points. That’s what’s so frustrating with this team to me. I played basketball for over 20 years and my coaches had the mentality of no matter what the score is, play like we’re down 10 and if it even looked like one of us started to be lazy and complacent, he benched us immediately. That’s how I teach basketball now, don’t stop playing hard until it’s over.

I also want to add this: I wouldn’t be this passionate about this team if they weren’t good enough to win it all. Like last year, I was surprised at how well the team played, we overachieved honestly. I thought our guard play would hinder us from being above average, but our big men played amazing and we got hot towards the end. But I wasn’t really hard o them as I am now. Again, with expectations come harsher critiques when the potential is there to be elite.

I didn't feel like we played very well yesterday. Maybe the last 10 minutes is messing with what really happened? I thought Pettiford wasn't very good in his first SEC game. Kelly needs to finish better. Cardwell didn't do much.
I'm not worried, but we didn't play great.
It's going to be interesting to see how good the SEC really is. Arky and Oklahoma got destroyed yesterday. South Carolina lost by 35 to Miss State. aTm wore Texas out.
I think we are going to find out that while the SEC is good...especially UT, AU and UA...there are some bad teams here. You must win your home games and survive on the road. You also must not lose to Missouri, Vandy, Georgia, South Carolina etc etc etc.

I trust Bruce. I trust this team. In the middle of the season (while still winning) it’s good to have some warts show on the team so the coaches have teaching points.

That's cute and sounds good and all but it's not realistic. It's a long season and what you're asking for is a recipe for peaking early like the 21 team. Like I said, when this team has needed to go the distance they've shown the ability numerous times with flying colors. Are we going to blow a game down the stretch this year that we should win? Almost definitely, so will pretty much everybody else. We just need to be doing whatever it is that has us peaking in March and not early February. Hopefully Bruce and these veterans know what that is.

The only downside to,the game yesterday. Pettiford looked terrible compared to his form thus far. He had been doing very well especially the high ball screen game with Broome, but he looked like Pegues out their dribbling the ball to death and taking bad shots.

That got corrected in game. Got his arse chewed at the break.
But Pettiford is going to be a volume shooter at AU.

There are some factors out of your control that influence rebounding numbers, but it's largely about effort for this team which has size and length. 16 turnovers is turrible, and a symptom of sloppiness/not being dialed in/not sharp/whatever. But AU has been excellent taking care of the ball so far, so no need to panic over 1 game while playing with a comfortable lead.
But.... I am a little concerned about how the offense stalls out under ball presser/being forced out higher on the court. AU dominates when it can run clean offense, which it has been doing most of this year (reflected in the insanely high efficiency metrics). Even under ball pressure, AU has some schematic answers (see UH and IA St games), but we end up with more late clock solo 3's, less shots off assists, fewer shots created by the offense, etc... Pettiford handles the pressure better than Denver due to his quickness but did not have a good game yesterday in that respect. Most SEC teams are going to have guys that can pressure both the point and wings. So while I think much of what AUSCgrad2016 is melting about can go into the bucket of AU just not being all that sharp yesterday, I do have an eye on how they handle ball pressure/initiate the offense moving into league play.
Finally AUSCgrad2016- quit losing sleep about 1 UT game. I watched it too. They are a good team and I can't wait to play them!

Quibble with the results, but after he sat for a bit he was much more generous with the ball.
