You’re gonna have that with each and every fan base. Maybe winning the Texas A&M is a stretch, but we beat them last year and had a chance had we have had a SEC quarterback on roster. I wasn’t expecting a win, however I did at least expect our offense to look like they had practiced together before. They definitely haven’t the past couple of outings

Email that just went out from (clickbaiting)247: "How can Auburn find 'more swagger' on offense?" Like they have any swagger as it is. How can you have more of nothing? Fans just want a somewhat functional offense, and they've been fed this unwatchable blooper reel shite for years now. Coaches haven't done a good job. Period.

Ticket prices are ridiculous. My expectations are not as demanding.

I get that but part of having a mediocre roster is sometimes you’re just gonna show up and get your arse whipped. There will be a couple more like that this year but I expect the trend to be up over the course of the season
Probably the most realistic outlook. We are not good right now. We are broken. The question is, can he take this broken program and somehow make some good out of it through the season and improve. I think its all that we can expect with what he has to work with.

it maybe 2025 before we are truly competitive with the rest of the conference

The more I thought on this, the less I like hearing a head coach saying it out loud & in public.
Long story short, I’ve got more concerns now than I had before.
But time will tell.

Atta boy ....cheer the crowd when winning. Cheer them for the support in California ......kick them in the teeth when you stub your toe with the lights turned off.
Did Deon bitch about his crowd?

Yeah
Taking our 3/4 stars up against 4/5 stars and losing those battles is one thing. But Big 10 multi-year starter Thorne is not some Harsin special. Our 4 star WRs dropping balls and screwing up routes is not a crisis of personnel attributable to the absence of talent. Especially when you watch no star players go up against better opponents and generate more offense every week.
I 100% think we're dealing with a talent deficit in the context of where we want to be in the SEC. But I do not think the staff is coming anywhere close to squeezing the max production out of what we do have.
I don't expect miracles. I do expect to break the cycle of ineptitude and not knowing who our QB is going to be halfway into a year. Given this is the third offense-minded HC in a row we're having similar problems with, some anxiety among AU fans isn't unreasonable. We do have time for Hugh to show this team is on the upswing and that's generally something that was lacking under late stage Gus and Harsin. Some very noticeable improvement over the next few weeks (even in losses) would ease some of the unrest IMO.

I am certainly not one for moral victories but if the good Lord wants to hand us a loss that looks like 45-31 and with a lead in total yardage to a pretty good team like LSU then I would be okay living with that.

No but to be fair. He has them up Triple the amount of wins last year and they are only at game 4. So yeah. They haven't been good for a long while. While we won a championship in the last 13 years, competed in the SEC championship recently. We have fans who are unrealistic of just how bad we have been and how depleted we really are. This is a turnaround and it will be hard. Much like CU they had a turnaround but with more of a roster change than we have had. So think about switching just the QBs of them and us and think of where we would be. Yeah it is that key.

I feel like a broken record because in the late Gus and Harsin years I repeated the mantra of "well if we end the year on an upswing and nobody wants to play us by late October/November, I don't care much about the record."
But I still mean it. And the schedule sets up reasonably well for Hugh to put together a strong second half of the season with even modest improvement.

I agree. It will take meaningful progression to get where we want to go. And we are ready for some sign of hope on the offensive side of the ball. We need the offensive identity part solved first.
We play Georgia this weekend which probably wont end well, but then we have a bye ( frick) and then LSU and then Ole Miss.
It is easier said than done to not expect wins if you are expecting development and teaching. If you cannot expect development or a process then being okay with an initial crap year is still a leap of blind faith and that is basically what Hugh is putting on us. Recruiting or something would have to go up to show accomplishment.

The problem I have -
We have better players on offense than we had last year. However, we are worse after hiring an offensive coach.
Our defense, has less talent, but is performing much better.
Seems Freeze needs to start owning the offense or we should have just hired Caddy.

We have a new system and a QB that arrived over the summer. I'm not throwing anyone out yet.
You're right about the defense. Great schemes and effort. We do need to have at least 11 players healthy to continue though.

People aren't giving aTm credit. Y'all acting like they are MSU or Mizzou. aTm has some of best recruits money can buy. We probably won't see a more talented front 7 this year. Their front 7 had the best player in MS, best player in LA and best player in another state. (I believe I heard Blackerby say this). All top HS recruits Saban and Kirby wanted.
They dominated the LoS on that side of the ball snd came in with a game plan based on that assumption. Some dude broke down the film and explained how they made it impossible for AU to run RPOs (which is why we didn't even try). Thats fine, but you have to punish them when they do that and Thorne couldn't.

Yes, this past offseason was arguably the talent/roster nadir of the modern AU era
Well, the running backs and TE's are pretty strong, the OL is still a work in progress, the WR's and QB's are behind most other teams.
I don't think that causes penalties, turnovers, and delay of game penalties (which are often coaching problems). I do think that the mark of a good coach is that some aspects of the game are solid despite a talent gap. Also another mark of a good coach is that he concentrates on what he players can execute, not on what they can't.
So far, I am not encouraged at all by what I have seen.

Carnell is probably one of the least talented coaches on our roster already and that's driven home by his recruiting data.
I am actually thinking of replacing Caddillac altogether is the most pratical move. The dude isnt getting any better by being at Auburn. He needs to go somewhere and start building networks and wait for momma to call.
