This. Our big money people would rather spend millions on a worthless and dying football program that hasn’t won anything in more than a decade than give anything to the most successful coach outside of David Marsch in Auburn sports along with the best major sport program at Auburn right now. It’s really sad that Bruce has to beg for money while that lame duck coach gets everything he wants to be a loser. Must be nice to be a football coach…

I get that but don’t get the revenue argument. It’s not going back into their pockets it’s just a passion project

I think the argument is when football is winning and raking in money, all the other sports benefit. Which is true, but I also think you need to be careful hurting the only other sport that actually makes money by doing so.

Unfortunately the big money people don’t care about the basketball program. Auburn could win 3 national championships in a row in basketball and Bruce would still have to dedicate half of his time begging for donations to the program…

Also, off topic, but looks like we broke Houston. They’ve lost 3 of their last 4 games and just lost to a mediocre San Diego State team.

San Diego state is playing good ball now but yeah I think Houston is a little overrated. Every year they are a metrics darling but do it mostly by whooping mediocre and slightly good teams and struggling against elite teams

I actually think the last 2-3 years they have been legit. This year might be one of their worst years in the past 5 years. They don’t have the playmakers they usually have and don’t have that normal dominant front court they usually have. Again, it was a great win for us during that time but if we played them at Auburn we win by 15+.

Cryer is not the playmaker that Shead was. He was what gave them enough offense to be so good.

I think their guards aren’t as good defensively as the last crop

I agree, but their front court is not as good as well. They look pretty average for their standards in the past few years. Not to minimize our win but yea, doesn’t look as great as it did then.

They’re for sure shorter and I would say not as quick. They always had length and physicality at the guard spot that made it so hard, and they just hid Shead on defense. Uzan is supposed to be an elite defender but he seems to foul out almost every game because he’s overly physical.

Alabama may have just lost a top 3 player in wrightsell jr for the season. I missed it but twitter is say he might of tore his Achilles

Agree. Again, this isn’t a typical Houston team. They will struggle during conference play due to their weakness in the front court and lack of depth.

More room for Aden to shine.

Yeah it had to be Achilles. Non-contact injury. Hate it for the kid. I agree that he’s one of their best players. Absolute hell off the bench.

Just pointing out that this page's conversation is why we need a season long thread, or just convert this one into one. Gotta have a spot to chat basketball between games.

Aden looks exactly the same. Streaky and inconsistent while playing no defense. I’m glad he’s not here anymore.

Seconded. I keep coming to the board looking to talk basketball and it’s tough not having a running pinned thread to do so. Not sure why the previous thread was ever unpinned.

That’s what other boards are doing. They’ll still create game threads but regular (outside of games) discussion is happening in the recruiting threads.

Yeah I generally agree. If Wrightsell is out long term, Bama really needs Youngblood to come back healthy and packing a punch in conference play or I could see them losing 7-8 conference games. Sears is also struggling big time this year. He was everyone’s preseason NPOY and so far hasn’t even looked like an all conference player
