I haven't watched tape of Tyrone, but I would rather take a shot at him than Taylor. We have LBers. You can never have enough lineman.

KN actually updated article and said he starting to think we do offer him which makes sense. There's a reason he is waiting on SEC schools to give him go ahead so I don't think he's a superstar or anything but I like his attitude. He's handled this whole being a backup thing real well which makes me think he can be coached. I doubt he does much first few seasons but who knows maybe by junior year he gives us a run stuffer on 3rd and short like Devaroe did this year

Tyrone Truesdell highlights

There's his tape. He won't be sacking many QBs but definitely a stone waller up front. Always need guys willing to take on double teams to free up other guys, I think he could do that for us

Taylor is a much better player, ergo: this is a silly statement. Its like the NFL Draft: best player available almost always trumps "need" except in cases wherein the difference between the two is slim.

No Bryant= worst class I can remember. Nothing against our recruits, but we lack depth this class

So you are like 9 and weren't alive during the Tubs era?...At least half his classes were worse than this one.

Faxes can start coming in at 6 CT. So whose gonna be the first? And whose gonna be delayed that causes everyone to panic?

My pick for first in is Shenker and for the drama LOI going Barrett

Some late night updates from KN

- arrow continues to trend up for LSU with Bryant. Nothing set in stone but sounds like confidence building there

- KN was told by source from another team that Truesdell will probably end up at AU. He was contacted by UF, LOU and OM yesterday

- 247 bumped Cannella to a 4* so composite a little higher

Auburn recruiting prepares for backup plans on offensive, defensive lines (SECCountry)
quote:

So, what’s next?

Auburn only has one defensive lineman committed in the 2017 class. That’s Alec Jackson. The lack of line numbers has been an area of concern, but Rodney Garner’s end-of-cycle history of success at the position eased most of those uncertainties. Now those issues re-emerge.

Johnson is off the board. The only other defensive linemen Auburn is knowingly in the hunt for are 4-star defensive end Markaviest Bryant and 3-star defensive tackle Tyrone Truesdell. Bryant was, more or less, unaffected by the Johnson decision. Truesdell’s recruitment could be directly correlated.

Truesdell told SEC Country on Monday that his choice was linked to Johnson’s or Bryant’s — with Johnson making more sense because of position and fit. He took his official visit last weekend and left saying Auburn and Florida were the only teams contending. He clarified on Monday by saying if Auburn made his offer committable, he’d take it.

Johnson’s decision came so late on Monday that Auburn likely waited overnight to finalize anything with Truesdell, but assuming an offer is given, a commitment from Truesdell is expected.

Bryant is set to announce on Wednesday. He is an edge rusher who serves a different purpose than Johnson, so those decisions are unrelated for the most part. But Johnson’s decision makes Bryant even more important to land for the Tigers.

If Auburn closes with Jackson, Truesdell and Bryant, it’ll be impossible to complain about Garner’s efforts. But the Tigers need those two moves in the next two days to get over the cross-country commitment by Johnson.

Bold predictions for Auburn on National Signing Day (SECCountry)
quote:

4-star DE/OLB Markaviest Bryant

It’s got to be Georgia, right?

The Bulldogs have been the favorites since the beginning. Bryant said throughout his senior season and all the way up to the Under Armour All-America Game that Georgia had the best chance to grab him. He just wanted to make sure.

Bryant took his visits. Georgia first. LSU second. Auburn last. With every trip, the Bulldogs’ confidence began to dwindle. All three sides still have cautious optimism with Bryant, but the gap has been closed significantly.

Bryant’s high school coach Shelton Felton said was Bryant’s coach at Crisp County High School in Cordele, Ga. As recently as Sunday, Shelton he believed Georgia held a slight edge, but Auburn was gaining ground fast. LSU’s official visit also made a huge impression on Bryant’s mother, who wasn’t able to make the trip to Auburn for his official visit.

Instead, Felton made that visit. It feels like Bryant’s mother might lean Georgia or LSU and Felton might lean Auburn. Ultimately neither will make the decision. It will be Bryant who decides.

His primary focus is development. Since the beginning, Bryant — while hesitant with Auburn as a whole — has always praised Rodney Garner’s ability to produce pass-rushers.

Prediction: Auburn, in a big National Signing Day upset

this guy also made "bold prediction" for Tarik Black to commit to AU

Auburn 2017 recruiting class: Committed players, rankings, schedule on National Signing Day (SECCountry)
quote:

Auburn recruiting will continue piecing together its 2017 team on Wednesday during National Signing Day.

In perhaps the most important year of Gus Malzahn’s time on the Plains, the head coach won’t sign his highest ranked class nationally, but this year’s group will tie Malzahn’s highest ranked class in the SEC (No. 4).

Though the Tigers only added one 5-star prospect, nine 4-star commits will join Malzahn — including the top JUCO prospect Jarrett Stidham — and his new offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey as Auburn tries to battle for conference supremacy.

Stidham and 6 other commits have already enrolled and started preparing for next season. Malzahn and his staff have worked hard to attract top talent and their recruiting efforts will culminate on Feb. 1 when X other prospects officially become Tigers.

Get to know: Auburn quarterback signee Jarrett Stidham (247)
quote:

What you need to know: Stidham, an early enrollee, was a touted quarterback in high school and signed with Baylor. There, he had a strong true freshman season, passing for 1,265 yards, 12 touchdowns and two interceptions while completing 68.8 percent of his passes in 10 games. He left the program after coach Art Briles’ dismissal last summer and enrolled at McLennan Community College in Texas, but did not play in 2016. He has three years to play three seasons.

Will they play in 2017? Stidham is expected to compete for the starting job this spring. At this time, the status of returning starter Sean White for the spring is up in the air because of a broken arm sustained in the Allstate Sugar Bowl and the door is wide open for the transfer to take over as the starting quarterback.

Get to know: Auburn defensive tackle signee Tashawn Manning (247)
quote:

What you need to know: Manning signed with Auburn 12 months ago but it was more ceremonial than anything. That’s because he had been diagnosed with a form of cancer on Thanksgiving Day 2015. Manning stayed in Orlando last year, got healthy and with his cancer is remission enrolled at Auburn in January. In high school, he was a standout two-way player but Auburn projects him at defensive tackle.

Will they play in 2017? It’s unlikely Manning will play in 2017. In fact, we haven’t yet gotten word when he’ll be cleared to practice. Right now, he’s trying his best to get his body back in shape after being away from the field for so long. Manning is more motivated than ever, but it may take some time. Technically, his NCAA clock did not begin until he enrolled. He counts toward the 2017 class totals.

Get to know: Auburn offensive guard signee Nick Brahms (247)
quote:

What you need to know: Brahms, who enrolled at Auburn in January, had such a strong junior season, he was named a U.S. Army All-American. But last August, Brahms sustained a broken fibula, also known as the calf bone, in his right leg. That caused him to miss his entire senior campaign. The good news: He’s should be 100 percent by the start of spring practice.

Will they play in 2017? Auburn is fairly deep on the inside of the offensive line, but because Brahms can play guard or center there’s a chance he could see action. That versatility is one of the things the Tigers like most about him. That said, a redshirt wouldn’t be a total shock.

Get to know: Auburn cornerback signee Malcolm Askew (247)
quote:

What you need to know: Askew is only 5 feet, 10.5 inches and 183 pounds, but he was one of the best all-around football players in the state of Alabama for the 2017 season. At McAdory High (Bo Jackson’s alma mater), he started at quarterback — and played defensive back. Because of his size and running ability, the Auburn staff projects the January enrollee at cornerback and is optimistic his game will grow as he concentrates on one side of the ball.

Will they play in 2017? Askew not only will participate in spring ball, but took part in some bowl practices in December. Auburn has several quality defensive backs returning, but if Askew can handle the physicality of the game (he still needs to get a little stronger), he very well could see the field this fall.
