one of my cousins played at uca with him but i couldn't remember his story so i googled:
Pippen attended Hamburg High School. Playing point guard, he led his team to the state playoffs and earned all-conference honors as a senior. He was not offered any college scholarships. Pippen began his college playing career at the University of Central Arkansas in Conway as a 6'1" walk-on. He did not receive much recognition in college because the school played in the NAIA. He eventually had a growth spurt to 6'8",[15] and his per game averages of 23.6 points, 10 rebounds, 4.3 assists and near 60 percent field goal shooting earned the Central Arkansas senior Consensus NAIA All-American honors in 1987, drawing the attention of NBA scouts.[16]

Wasn't he like 6 foot 1 when he started at UCA and was a late bloomer?
Plus, UCA back then was NAIA not near the level where it is now. It wasn't a whiff, just a guy whose body and game came into its own during college.

I think it's something like that. He went to hs at my hometown's arch rival, even though it was a much smaller school, & grew up about 12 miles from where I was raised. Although I was quite a bit younger than he, I don't remember much fuss being made about him growing up. The town he's from is in the same county as my hometown, so we had the same county paper, and I just don't remember seeing him in it. I've even gone back to look a little over the years in past issues.
I do know he was a "trainer" (towel boy back then) at some point during his high school days, and grew something like six or eight inches either in high school or college - in one year. The rest is history, I guess. He absolutely exploded after that.
The last I heard about him, some of his family still lived in the huge house he built for them in Hamburg. I've seen him a few times at country club functions back home through the years, but not in quite a while.

Weird this is posted, I didnt even know thats where he went to college until the other day.
Was at my doctors office and my doctor played at another NAIA college and was 3rd team All American same year and had his certificate on the wall.
Just weird because Im originally from Illinois and was a kid when the bulls made thier run in the 90's.

He owns or did own a big spot of land outside of Beebe, with some good hunting. Nobody ever kept an eye on that place.
Mr. Pippen, thanks for providing us a nice place to ride 4-wheelers and such. Sorry for being an idiot 18 yr old and thinking it was ok to tear up personal property.

Sometimes, while he was still with the Bulls, he'd come home to Hamburg for a visit. Everyone knew when he was around because he'd drive his Rolls over to the basketball courts of my hometown since they were nicer than Hamburg's at the time. He'd park right there, get out, & play with whomever was there. It didn't take long for every kid (& some adults) in the county to flock to our local courts.
My younger brother had a friend who worked in our town's McDonald's while in high school, and loves to tell the story about Scottie & Michael J. going through the drive thru one night while he was working. Apparently, Michael visited with Scottie a couple of times, and loved shocking the shite out of the kids by doing things like that.

He was 6'1" student manager for UCA his freshman year, then grew to 6'8" and retained his "PG abilities".
Jamal Jones was similar his junior or soph year in HS he was a 6'0" PG then grew to 6'7" while still being able to shoot and handle just as well.
The only team in the country to "miss" on Pippen was the Sonics who made a trade with the Bulls for his draft rights.

Im pretty sure UCA will name their court after him eventually...unreal how much stuff they have about him there already
One of my professors at UCA told a story about how they knew some of the professors that would fly to Portland to teach him so that he could finish his degree. Said he was probably the only student they've done that for lol. Probably cost a ton for each lesson
