Well, thought I’d give a post on here that some will hate and some may agree with…
Yesterday as a whole was a great time for me, having gone to school in both places it was nice to walk around campus yesterday and to also see some folks I haven’t seen in a while.
As a whole, our Arkansas team is much improved from a season ago. I went into this game expecting a loss and was a little nervous about getting blown out. I really wasn’t sure what our Hogs had. UAPB didn’t really tell us anything. Yesterday told me a lot though…and I’ve read some posts on here and I think quite a few of you will NOT agree with me…
1) I saw an offense that can be very explosive and has the tools to give every team on the schedule heart attacks. The offensive line is marvelous in comparison to the last two years.
2) This team never quit. Never. From mid second quarter on, everything, and I mean everything, went against the Hogs. From freak interceptions, to penalties, missed FG, etc. You name it, and it went against us. That team I watched never flinched. Not one bit.
3) The defense is good. Our offense put them in bad positions all second half until they finally wore down. They’d be put in bad spots and only give up FG’s until it took a trick play to finally break their backs.
4) This team will win games. I had this squad pegged at 6-6 going into the season. Yesterday may have me thinking 7-8 wins as a possibility.
5) Turnovers suck, but yesterday 2/3 turnovers were a complete fluke. A pick 6 on a lame duck pass because of Green getting hit as he threw and our most reliable punt returner getting rolled into by his own man which caused him to lose focus and muff a punt.
I’m excited to see this group grow. Are we making the playoff this year? Probably not, but none of us expected that. Can we beat most of the teams remaining on our schedule? Absolutely. Will we? Probably not. Will we all be upset after a loss at some point this season? 100%

I really think we're vastly improved offensively and defensively. We just have to stop shooting ourselves in the dick

That happens to every QB and I’m not putting that turnover on Green, but Green does need to significantly improve his timing on pure passing plays. He’s great rolling out on play action and stretching the defense out, but when he needs to make a quick read and deliver an accurate ball it’s a crapshoot.

That’s the type of “fluke” that happens to teams that aren’t disciplined on the details. No excuse for that happening other than you weren’t taught punt return fundamentals.

Maybe, but really this loss wasn’t that different from almost beating Alabama, LSU and Ole Miss on the road last year. We keep losing close games against good teams but that doesn’t get us anywhere.

No, it’s a fluke. There is no discipline issue or whatever you’re trying to insinuate with one of our own guys being hit and rolling under where the punt is being caught. Were literally talking about inches on a punt that Sategna had to move to catch. There is no “Peter” call for a punt being caught. It was literally a freak thing.

Did we watch different games yesterday? The kid passed for over 400 yards and completed nearly 60% of his throws. He was 100% the best QB performer in yesterday’s game and by far an improvement over KJ. If the hit is a millisecond later, Arkansas is up 28-7.

The only improvement that matters are the wins.

Until we start winning, might as well argue with a brick wall
Those of us that can see the improvement will just have to wait for the payoff at a later date while the pessimists gnash their teeth in the meantime.

This is what gives me hope actually. There wasn't a lot, on film, to learn from in week 1. There's tons of stuff on film this week and anyone who thinks Bobby won't be in the film room religiously with his QB and others, to get a lot of this sorted out, doesn't really know much about him. There will still be mistakes throughout the year but I believe there will be MORE improvement. Your point about them not giving up, even when everything was going against them, assures me of this. This is not the same team, from years past, that just wanted to play at football and fold in the face of any adversity. I believe players that matter most have a lot more pride and want to than the last few years and it will show as the season goes on.
At least I hope.

This is exactly how we started last year. We lost to a less talented BYU team by almost the exact same score.
We clearly hadn’t worked on end of half/game situations. It took 10 seconds to get lined up for a spike.

I think the wins will come soon…after yesterday, I believe this team is capable of being 4-1 heading into the Tennessee game at home on 10/5.

Both teams look like shite earlier in the year for many seasons then for some reason look like different teams when they play Arkansas.

I tried that optimism, my concern comes with how the frick we make a bowl game this year ....
Texas am
Auburn
Miss state
These are must wins not hope we cans. Lose one and we will need to beat LSU, or a top 10 team to be bowl eligible...

The three teams Arkansas hasn't played well against and two are on the road.

Hawgeye... Very good synopsis! And I feel the same.
We have been so battered that it is hard to see after the last few years.
Fan Sentiment is low, low, low...
Tix on the aftermarket dropped in prices immediately following the loss, and more were listed immediately as well. So many rumors going on as well. thanks for your post!

The best part of the loss, is that it was so expected and others losing like ND means no one has covered it.
