The portal for other teams will open back up in the spring. Everyone chill for a minute.

All we’re getting is bad news for us. Well we’re the only major team besides UW with an open portal right now. Obviously I don’t think the spring portal will leave us with a net positive on talent since Saban left, but we will bring in good guys. Hell, at least we’ll know what we need and not be blindsided by guys leaving after Spring ball like other teams will be. Let’s grab a talented guy from UMASS no one has heard of, an LSU guy that didn’t have the spring he wanted, maybe a talented guy from Georgia who could get big playing time over here NOW. It looks like we’re getting picked apart by buzzards, but those doing the damage are protected now and they won’t be soon.
ETA: I didn’t know the rules about intra-conference transfers in the Spring portal. Point stands about going and grabbing talent from smaller schools or outside of the SEC. Kinda ridiculous conference rivals aren’t exempted from the schools available when a coach leaves after the portal window has closed if we can’t retaliate in the spring.

I agree that we will be as active as anyone has been in the portal this Spring but that is part of the problem: we could use the players before Spring practice not after. New program, no deep institutionalized knowledge for returning players to coach new players up in the Summer, etc.
We ought to have enough talent to be a credible top half of the new SEC team but we're going to have some messy games mostly due to overall lower talent, inconsistent depth negatively impacting some positions more than others, less knowledge of the scheme, etc.

It may open for Michigan players in the next ten days.

As stated in many other threads, we can’t touch any players in the SEC after the spring. Therefore, unfortunately, we likely won’t get that many high level transfers at that time.
