We have a team full of players that got used to getting away with playing undisciplined football, although it also cost us probably 2 more NCs over the second half of Saban's tenure, and that was under the goat disciplinarian coach. These are upper class men and multi year starters constantly killing drives on offense and extending drives on defense with dumb penalties. People keep saying deboer looks confused, well I would be too if you coach up all these 4 and 5 star players, best talent in the country, and when they play the game they just derp it up at the worst times. It's just part of the DNA of some of these players, ingrained in them over the course of years. It's not something that's gonna get fixed quickly or maybe at all, probably not till these guys move on. It just is what it is.

Okay but I'm confident the player conduct penalties are up from the end of the Saban tenure.

Alabama has been a excessively penalized team and mostly deserves it because several of their cover guys were grabby (Arnold struggling with that in the NFL btw) and the pass rushers were reckless with their pursuit and drew contact penalties. The new thing is the increase in player conduct penalties. They've had at least 1 in each of the last 4 games. They run their mouths too much and end up crossing the line and due to the chirping the refs are primed to toss the flags.

they are all millionaires now. I bet conduct penalties are up across the board. Holden transfere to Oregon and spit on a guy. College football is fundamentally changed, and it's never going to be what it used to be

That was going on since at least 2022. Dallas Turner was a machine for player conduct penalties. They've been talking shite and not backing it up for years, and throwing these little tantrums. I mean the last time Alabama went to Knoxville they had a player shove a UT coed after the game. Saban specifically talked about major issues with player mentality and conduct as one of the things driving him into retirement.

There are definitely cultural issues with the program. My concern is that DeBoer is too softhearted to fix them, and maybe in this player dictated era it isn't possible anyway. Kirby Smart is by far the best coach and even there it seems like player conduct is a huge issue.

Everybody wants to throw stones

Nobody would apply the same impossible standards to themselves.

You inherit a team with talent...but nowhere near the talent that people claim there is.

You inherit a team that has a serious locker room problem, an incredibly flawed QB that if benched will cause major issues, and missing its best players from last season.

You arent even allowed time to get your own players in before large segments of the entitled fanbase have written you off.

You people can do what you want to, but im standing firm behind coach DeBoer, a better man than any of the obese idiots who claim he has no discipline, but themselves are a door dash order away from diabetes.

If in year 4 things are off the rails, then well talk. If we actually followed the whims of the "fire em all Pawwwl" crowd, Bama will just become Auburn. Unable to hire decent coach because nobody wants to deal with a rotten fanbase

Exactly. So I'm not sure where to look as an example of a disciplined team anymore.
