I agree. For what he has meant to the University there is no amount that could be considered over paying him.

Probably less likely the agent haggling but something that benefits one or both parties. It is a very odd number to arrive at so it must have a reason.

More likely it's simply an error by the reporter. He just looked up the paycheck in the open records database and multiplied it by 12.

He's getting paid 500,000, which isn't divisible by 12, so in a typical payroll system, every 3rd check will be 1 cent less to get to the correct number. In an atypical one, it might just round each check up to the nearest number and he ends up with the extra 4 cents at the end of the year.

Maybe I am a contrarian, but I question Coach Saban's value as an employee going forward. My experience tells me this. Of course he could be the exception as he as has been before. Sooner or later he will be history just like Coach Bryant. Saban's value to Alabama football and our fan base is uncalculatable and I wish him the best going forward.

Dude you are going to get downvoted to oblivion for this. Lol.

First of all, there probably isn’t a number we can put on what we owe him. He was the biggest bargain in football history.

Second, you don’t see the value in the greatest football coach of all time working at your university for 500k? You don’t think he’s still going to be watching football? You don’t think he might have a few ideas for the defensive staff here and there? You don’t think we can bring him in on special occasions to seal the deal on a big recruit? Or have him make a call to some millionaire donor to talk him off a little more NiL money?

I'd be ok paying him 500k from now until he passes away and that still wouldn't be enough.

What the Saban family has done for UA and the city of Tuscaloosa is invaluable really and I’m sure they will do the same thing going forward, maybe more so since he’ll have more time. Mrs Terry is worth a million a year by herself.

$500,000 / 12 months = $61,666.66666666667 roughly per month

$500,000.04 / 12 months =$ 61,666.67 per month

The extra $0.04 makes the math work down to the cent.

What's his title? Or what is he planning to do?
Like be an elder spokesman?
Does he have requirements like be on campus a certain amount of time?

He has an office at Bryant-Denny. He will be a consultant, an ambassador, a mentor, a recruiter, a fund raiser etc.
University is going to use his name & value wherever needed. He is our precious resource.

In addition to Sandkhan's comment's about coaching perspective. Saban is a hell of a speaker at any type of engagement. (corporate, etc). He will be invaluable moving forward for fund raising. With more time on his hands, he will be able to do more events and drag in more money. With NIL and other projects we want done (Coleman)........money is still a major need in order to compete. He will be able to go get it for us.

I'm sure he's tutoring deboer and staff on the art of recruiting and selling a program, and we are seeing the fruits of that

It took this long for me to muster up the courage to respond to the backlash caused by my post. First it was stupid of me to put that opinion on this forum. This opinion really needed more discussion and explanation. Second I meant no disrespect to Nick Saban and the money never crossed my mind. I email a person I know that is very knowledgeable about sports and is not an Alabama fan, but is a big Saban fan. He told me when Saban came to Alabama we were getting a great coach. He had followed his career and read his book. He happened to agree with me on moving forward or I would not be sending this post. He also said Alabama fans should "thank their lucky stars that the Dolphins took Dante Culpepper instead of Drew Brees or Saban may be known as the greatest NFL coach." What Nick Saban did at Alabama will never be repeated. It is in the stratosphere of John Wooden's 10 out of 12 national basketball championships at UCLA. Most great coaches only have 10 to 12 years on top. One thing Coach Saban and Coach Bryant had in common was they both had about 20 years coaching the team to beat.

It’s not that deep. It’s a message board forum. You shouldn’t have to muster up courage to say anything on here, no matter how wrong it is lol.
