We don’t have a capable quarterback. I’m certain I’m not the only
Human on the planet that watched him lollipop out routes tonight.

Start Ferguson instead of Dalcourt next week. Dalcourt gets whooped every play and it disrupts everything

I’ve been a major skeptic after A&M last year and A-Day this year but Milroe vastly over performed my expectations tonight.

Basic Requirements:
Limit Turnovers? Check
Short range accuracy? Check
Mid range accuracy? Check
Read defense? Improved

Extra Credit:
-touch on deep passes? Check
-convert 3rd downs? Check
-Hold ball correctly on runs? Check

Dude isn’t Bryce. He doesn’t have to be because he runs a 4.4 40. He just needs to keep the safeties back and distribute the ball effectively in the RPO.

MTSU was 95th in FEI defense last year but tonight was very encouraging.

Texas will tell the tale but this was tangible progress, give him credit where credit is due.

I agree, run game felt nonexistent. We shouldn't be struggling against MTSU to put up 100 yards combined from our backs

I like Ree's playcalling, but i'm concerned about Milroe against an actual defense with talent. I'm not sure if it's just the playcalling but he was staring down quite a few times. Doesn't seem as bad as Blake Sims, who never took his eyes off Amari, but that Texas defense isn't a slouch

We will have to run the ball better against Texas. They have a legit front line.

I do think we were super vanilla in the running game though. We really didn’t try many outside runs. The QBs scored on almost every RPO we ran when they kept the ball, so we really don’t know what our real running game looks like.

i'll take that since I already have action on it... why not raise the stakes and the loser never posts here again?

My thoughts...

We look exactly like I imagined we would. Jalen Milroe will play elite so to speak vs teams like these. The offensive line looked above average at times but they never WOWED me. Dalcourt needs to be replaced. The receivers looked decent but we most definitely need JaCorey Brooks on the field.

Defensively, I loved what I saw from Tim Keenan and Buck Robinson. Downs, Kool-Aid, Key, & Arnold was really good. Our linebackers really didn't WOW me...still think Justin Jefferson is the best out of that group but they was okay.

I still think we are defensive line coach away from being ELITE again up front.

You may have noticed 3 attempts at first and goal with the third run being successful whenJase had to break it outside. That would have been hard to understand why our 1700 pounds couldn’t move their 1200 pile one yard.

Dalcourt ain't it. Nick giving the guy the benefit just as he always does to the vets.

ILBers looked better but the interior DL looks much the same. The defense does play much faster with Kevin running the show.

Real show starts Saturday.

Since everyone else is giving their unsolicited thoughts, I’ll add mine.

Impressed with
Jalen’s deep ball accuracy
No drops by the WR
Amari Niblack receiving
Lawson QB pressure
Riechard kickoffs
Playcalling on both sides of the ball

As expected
Line play on both sides of the ball (OL will gel as the season goes on)
The secondary (as good as advertised)
Punting
Jalen’s running ability (expected great and it was great)
The other quarterbacks
Tackling

Worried about
Jalen’s mid range accuracy and ability to quickly read a defense
The running backs
Injuries

Also Burnip was bombing the punts which we heard about in the scrimmages.

One huge takeaway from last night is someone finally missed a FG attempt against us.

According to the stats posted on the Rant, Milroe posted a 94.4 QBR last night.

Agree - Latham did not impress either - would like to know how he graded for the game - the right side of the OL didn't get much push all night w/o tight end support.

Lawson is headed to greatness.

Not sure Milroe could have played better - I was pleased with his performance - the playbook was very conservative last night - next week, chapter 2 will have several new wrinkles and if he executes those well and limits turnovers (0 or 1), Bama SHOULD win.

But the key to win against Texas isn't Milroe - it is the D and Special Teams - field position and Sark vs. Steele - Texas will hit some explosive plays - need to ensure Texas has to drive the ball 75-80 yards to score and add a few blitz formations Sark hasn't seen.

And edited to add - there were 2 targeting reviews last night - the refs got them both wrong - pathetic.

And it was a chip shot. Unfortunately we used up our freebie in a meaningless OOC cupcake game and will now be subjected to average kickers drilling a dozen 50+ yarders against us the rest of the season.

I’ll give my thoughts as well since we are all doing it.

Milroe played well, the gameplay was basically our scrimmage look. I recognized it almost immediately. We ran the exact same plays in that order during the scrimmage. Keep that in mind. Our playbook will be open next week. I need to see him hit some other routes but overall I’m good. We have a great backup in Buchner as well.

Defense is solid, need to see where the injuries leave us. The middle of the DL is important against Texas. We seem to be good there. Texas will launch some balls deep and they have better receivers, need to win some of those. Our ILBers are much improved.

Niblack is going to be an issue for just about everyone we play. Bond coming into his own.

We have elite special teams.

They are as tight lipped on Key as ever. I can’t find out anything.

This is really strange to me. We're always able to get injury reports on guys, so I wonder what's going on with Key's injury.

My biggest concern for Texas is Sark utilizing stacked WR formations. That formation killed us against Tennessee, MTSU was able to have some success using it, and Texas using Worthy and Mitchell in a stack is terrifying, especially with the injuries we have to our secondary (I imagine Devonta Smith won't be back for Texas either).
