A lot more tournament appearances (also they have basically made the tournament every year since 1989 with a couple of exceptions), more sweet 16s / Elite 8s / Final 4s. They have had guys like Kevin Durant, LaMarcus Aldridge, T.J. Ford, and D.J. Augustin come through in the last few years (Alabama hasn't had a player of this caliber in quite some time).

They aren't "elite" but I think they are in a tier above Alabama right now.

I'm sure some will have reasons, but I point to our potential. I just posted this on tRant. It shows what Bama is capable of if they've got the right coach and commitment:

quote:

Difference is Bama has been elite in Basketball for an extended stretch before. They made the NCAA tourney in 10 consecutive years from 1982 - 1992. During that span they also made it to the Sweet 16 6 times including one stretch where they made the Sweet 16 in 5 of 6 years.

Can you list the current programs who have made the Sweet 16 in 5 of 6 years?
They are: Kentucky And Michigan State. That's it.

FYI:
arizona 4 of 6
duke 4 of 6
forida 4 of 6
l'ville 4 of 6
UNC 3 of 6
wisc 4 of 6

No one else above 3. That's pretty good b'ball company that Bama HAS been in before - though not recently - and CAN be in again with right coaching.

Sure would be swell if there was some new news You would have thought something would be leaking by now to Cecil or the guys at 247.

I would think until at least Sunday (when I'm hoping an offer is accepted) it will be pretty quiet

Might get some leakage tomorrow night

If it's Marshall it will happen super fast though I'm sure, Bama wants to get him sewed up and under contract before other schools (namely Tenn & Texas) start really showing legitimate interest.

I'm wondering who Texas will even target if Bama's "Plan A" works and they get Marshall

Wonder if Texas would consider Larry Brown

I think the two camps probably started talking for real today. We'll probably start to hear something leak out tomorrow. If we haven't heard anything by Sunday night...hold onto your butts.

This Texas thing is the real wild card. Kind of wish Wichita had lost to Kansas.

I just wonder how this is going down. Do we make an offer in Wichita and then fly back to Tuscaloosa and let him mull his offer and if he's interested send the jet back to get him? Or do we not leave Wichita until we get a firm answer on his intentions?

Does anyone on BOL or TideSports Premium have any clue what is going on? I wouldn't expect Marshall to be in a big hurry, but I doubt we go 24 hours from now without something happening.

The wounded duck flies the fastest at sundown. In other words N1UA just left again.

Rick Barnes' future at Texas likely will be determined early next week

Rick Barnes' future at Texas is expected to be determined early next week, sources told CBSSports.com, and the most likely outcome has Barnes, one way or another, not returning as the Longhorns' coach for the 2015-16 season, according to sources.

Vols talk to Butler coach Chris Holtmann, sources say

quote:

Tennessee officials had a preliminary conversation with Butler coach Chris Holtmann on Friday regarding its vacant head coaching position, sources familiar with the discussions said.

The sources, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because they weren't authorized to speak publicly, said representatives for Tennessee and Holtmann had contact in the hours since Tennessee officially fired Donnie Tyndall.

F Texas. They can't compete with Nick Saban recruiting skills.

This is from Lucky 10 hours ago:

quote:

Still hearing that Alabama is in solid shape to land Gregg Marshall and here's how it could play out ...

*** We think a final decision could be made this weekend, which would setup for an announcement on Sunday and presser on Monday -- should Marshall accept the job.

*** SPECULATION: We would not be surprised if Marshall makes a visit to Tuscaloosa this Saturday for a final and closer look.

*** We've heard nothing to the contrary to change our stance that it is Marshall's job to turn down and that he is the primary candidate.

*** Our sources tell us that Alabama remains in good shape (at this time).

Someone asked him if he thinks this is a done deal:

quote:

I am not saying it is going to happen. I am saying that Alabama is in good shape to get this closed and hire Marshall. Much will likely happen over the next 48 hours by both parties.

I am too old and seen too much craziness over the years to predict a coaching move when giant egos and millions of dollars are involved.

Also read on another board that while Texas could certainly get in a bidding war with Bama for Marshall, people close to the program said they weren't interested in spending upward of $3 million for a basketball coach. TIFWIW.

I think they are building a new arena, so they might not want to spend too much on a coach.

They would have a harder time selling the athletic salaries to the academics than Alabama. They don't all seem to be on board there. It could be our saving grace, but they obviously have deeper pockets.

With the Blue Angels and thousands of fans out at the airport all weekend, it's going to be hard to sneak in and out the University plane out of it's hangar.
