I also think these younger guys showing out in fall camp and giving the opportunity to play as true freshman will help with recruits who are constantly told there is a logjam at every position at UA and you will not see the field until a few years into the program.
I think it also demonstrates to recruits and their families UA only wants the kid that wants to succeed. The opportunity to succeed is there it will be up to him how it works out. MS pretty much set the bench for 4 years so why not go some where and play if you can. KS had issues last year and even his father gave an interview over the summer that he thought KS was doing better, but that should be a red flag right there that a parent is giving an interview about a player currently on the roster.
It can be said however others outside of our program what they think happened but the fact is Saban gives everyone a chance to succeed. Neither of those two has had to overcome more because mainly his own fault than T Brown and he is still in the program and looks like he might have a solid year for us.

I am not even sure if Ridley went else where SBB would have ended up at UA.
Absolutely true. They were a bonafide package deal, IIRC. FSU wanted Ridley but wouldnt give SBB the time of day.

SBB played as a true freshman, you don't do that unless you are pretty good.

It was mostly just Special Teams though

Alabama returned to the field Tuesday afternoon for its 12th day and 15th overall practice of fall camp. The Crimson Tide practiced outdoors and in full pads on a sunny, 91-degree afternoon.
Here are several tidbits from the media viewing portion of Alabama's Tuesday practice session in Tuscaloosa:
- Redshirt freshman cornerback Kendall Sheffield missed his third consecutive practice in two days.
- Tony Brown practiced with the corners, while Trevon Diggs and Keaton Anderson worked with the safeties.
- In the team’s nickel drills, Marlon Humphrey and Anthony Averett were the corners, Brown was the Star -- until Minkah Fitzpatrick finished getting his ankle taped -- Eddie Jackson and Ronnie Harrison were the safeties, Reuben Foster and Shaun Hamilton were the inside linebackers and Ryan Anderson was the lone outside linebacker.
- The second nickel group was Brown and Jared Mayden (with Aaron Robinson shadowing), Shyheim Carter at Star, Laurence Jones and Diggs (with Deionte Thompson shadowing) at safety and Keith Holcombe (with Ben Davis shadowing) and Rashaan Evans (with Lyndell Wilson shadowing) at inside linebacker.
- Evans and Holcombe, who have been limited in recent practices, seemed to be doing more Tuesday.
- Joshua McMillon was not spotted on the field during the second of two media viewing periods.
- Defensive end Dalvin Tomlinson (ankle) was riding a stationary bike with a boot on his right foot.
- An NFL scout from the Indianapolis Colts watched Tuesday’s outdoor practice from the sideline.
*** What’s next: Alabama head coach Nick Saban will hold a press conference at 5 p.m. CT.

Alabama redshirt freshman cornerback Kendall Sheffield has not been with the football program the past couple days, Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban said Tuesday evening following the team’s 15th fall camp practice session, but the former five-star recruit’s return to Tuscaloosa is unknown to the head coach as fall camp comes to an end and school begins Wednesday.
“Kendall Sheffield has not been here for last couple days,” Saban said. “I don’t really know what his status is, so there’s no need to ask me. We’re happy to have him back, he’s a fine young man, he’s worked hard, he’s made a lot of improvement here. We enjoy having him be a part of the team, if that’s what he chooses, and we will continue to work with him in a positive way to help him develop personally, academically and athletically.”
Sheffield was not present at either of Alabama’s latest three practice sessions. He had seen some reps at cornerback with the first-team secondary in previous practices’ nickel drills, but the Tide secondary was far from set with a lot of moving pieces during fall camp. Sheffield has been concerned with possible playing time, sources told BamaOnLine.
There is not, however, a cutoff date for Sheffield to return to the team, Saban said Tuesday.
“We want what’s best for the people on our team, aight?” Saban said. “If there’s something that we can do to help resolve this from their family’s standpoint, we’re certainly available to do that, and there’s no pressure from our standpoint. School starts tomorrow. It’s really important that our players develop the right habits, have success in school. That’s what they’re here for. And hopefully he’ll make a decision so he doesn’t get behind from that standpoint.”
Sheffield redshirted last season after arriving to Tuscaloosa as the No. 3 player in the state of Texas, No. 4 cornerback and No. 20 overall prospect in the 2015 recruiting cycle, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.
Sounds like he is staying to me.

sounds like NS is trying to work with him on whatever the issues are as he does not want to lose another DB

South Alabama Tide may be right about the family emergency.

NS also said QB's started slow but the driving rain had something to do with that and they got better as the practice went on

It's not a family emergency saban is referring to, it's his family "his dad" thinks he should start. The kid is kind of being dragged along. If he does come back he probably won't start start unless he somehow becomes superman during the scrimmage.

I'm not sure what you guys are reading lol. He said I don't know his status but will work with him then he said talk to his family ie his father who is disgruntled.

With all of the on the field success, Saban does not get enough credit with the academic success of the program.

I posted that article a couple of weeks ago where AL.com interviewed Kendall's dad.
At that point it seemed like the dad understood the process and was pushing Kendall to keep working at his craft.
The toxin from the Mo Smith fiasco has to have crept into this situation, particularly with the new kids pushing as well.

That's because everyone not a Bama fan thinks they all graduate with degrees in underwater basket weaving and that its all a ruse. Sad really that he gets very little credit for giving the team every opportunity for a great education.

It's a family conflict, if saban can make dad happy I think he comes back. Not sure where he is with it. My ear is to the ground.
