Specifically the moment where both teams encountered each other in the tunnel prior to the start of the game. I remember that moment vividly, and I specifically remember my mother being none too pleased at how our guys seemed to taunt Notre Dame as they passed them on the way to the field. She was afraid we'd end up like Miami in the '93 Sugar Bowl. However, Te'o seems to imply that the game was lost at that moment. Psychological warfare had been waged and had made Notre Dame's players a little unnerved.

That was a great moment. Especially in hindsight.

I remember their Big-10 looking fans started selling shirts that read "Catholics vs Cousins" so Bama fans immediately responded by making "Pachyderms vs Pedophiles" shirts

The game was over when Eddie Lacy got 30 yards rushing on his first three attempts like we were playing Western Carolina

They were nowhere near capable of beating us or Georgia that year

Complete and utter destruction of the 2nd most storied CFB program.

This was murder-ball at its peak. We dominated LSU in a different way the year before.

It was never this "easy" again. Clemson went toe to toe with us. Ohio state at least traded a couple blows. And of course UGA upped their game at the end.

Imagine if the rules had never changed to allow for the hurry up no huddle offenses to become the norm. Murder ball could still be going. I miss it. But I also appreciate the offensive evolution. DeBoer is going to be using his version of that. Excited for it.

First drive we rode Eddie Lacy down the field for a TD and it was clear that Alabama was about to hand down an arse whooping. Alabama was simply better across the board: size, speed, strength, physicality, etc.

I remember seeing a interview with one of our o- lineman after that game and he said when they watched film on Notre Dame that they all started laughing and were shocked that this team was in the national championship game. He said they weren't worried one bit about winning ,they knew they were going to win.

I'm pretty sure Miami though the same thing about Bama in 92.

Funny how things turn out.

I think the only time this has caught Bama out is in these consolation bowl games. THinking particularly about playing Oklahoma and Utah in the Sugar Bowl.

Proud of how we handled Mich State, Kansas State, Michigan in similar bowl games.

That's because Miami didn't go by the film but instead by the reputation they had built for themselves since 1986 or so. That '92 Miami squad was solid but they weren't unbeatable and had shown themselves to be very mortal multiple times that season. For instance, they held on to an 8-7 win over an unranked Arizona team at home when Arizona's kicker missed the game winner by a foot as time expired. They also had scares against Florida State and Penn State while also struggling against Syracuse. Now it's true that Alabama had their struggles against the likes of Southern Miss, Louisiana Tech, Mississippi State, and Florida, but those struggles were put under a microscope while Miami's struggles against similar competition were ignored.

Miami was good but they were flawed. Alabama exposed them in New Orleans.

I had a warmup field pass for that game.

My dad, and best friend who played FB at Miami were there. My buddy turned to me when he watched the teams warming up and just said it’s over. When we got to our seats he said the same thing to all the ND fans around. It was so obvious.

Inject this into my veins

Everyone that watched the pregame where Bama came out of the tunnel and ND was just standing there knew what was coming

I remember Miami players talking a lot of shite to the press in the week leading up to the game and, if memory serves, trying to instigate some drama with Bama players in the French Quarter. They shut up pretty quickly after Bill Oliver lined up the entire defense and sent them after Gino Toretta on Miami's first offensive play. The strip of Lamar Thomas is one of the most iconic plays in Alabama football history even though Bama was offsides. I can still hear Keith Jackson exclaim "Teague's got the ball! Teague's got the ball!" Especially sweet that was watching with a bunch of Hurricane bandwagon fans who assured me Miami was gonna roll the Tide.

After the 2010 season, my buddy (who is always convinced if we played Hoover High Bama would get better by 10+) and I scored tix to the bowl game vs MSU. During the pregame warmups while both teams were on the field it was waaaay more than apparent that there was a whole different breed of animal on one side of the field as opposed to the other side. I said to my buddy, "This game is over. We're going to kill them." "Don't say that! We'll be lucky to win!" And, of course, we were up 21-0 before the national anthem was done.

Fast forward two years, and we're in Miami for the national championship against the Domers. During the pregame warmups I turned to him and said, "Buddy, you remember that bowl game against the Spartans? I have this sneaking suspicion this is going to end up the same way." It was that obvious just looking at both teams on the hoof.

Maybe it intimidated them even more, but the game was over before it started. Even if Alabama had walked by them, shaken all of their hands, and said "Best of luck guys, looking forward to a great game" it would have been a whipping. Notre Dame was totally outmatched just as they were in 2020. The final scores in both cases, lopsided as they were, don't even tell the full story.

The media overhyped that Miami team. I remember Lee Corso calling Alabama a high school team that had no business being on the field against Miami. The Hurricanes were way overconfident and got their asses handed to them.

Alabama in 1992 blew teams out more often than did Miami.

In 1992 Miami beat Arizona 8-7 (Arizona went 6-5-1 that year).

They beat FSU 19-16.
They beat Penn State 17-14.
They beat Syracuse 16-10.

They had a lot of close games, and not all of them were against good teams. 1/3 of their games in 1992 were won by less than a TD.

Bama beat everyone by at least a TD.

That was Barrett Jones. He said every week when him and Jeff Stoutland would meet in his office to go over the gameplan Stoutland always left his door open but that week he got up and closed the door so he knew something was up. CJS asked Barrett about his honest feelings about ND after watching tape and Barrett said he responded something like "Honestly I don't see anyway we don't win by multiple scores." and that CJS said something along the lines of "I keep trying to find ways we will struggle with them but I can't see anyway we don't win big."
