Of course not. But OL -- whether going from HS or juco level to Bama level -- is a developmental position. A juco guy only has 2 years left to play vs 4 for the HS prospects. Unless there's a major hole to fill and your very confident a juco guy can fill it, it's best to take HS OLs.

The only time I've ever been right about an offensive lineman was Jonah Williams.
His film was incredible and he wasn't even the highest ranked tackle in that class. I'm wrong 95% of the time about kids coming out of high school.

Anyone remember a Juco OT that came in and was day 1 starter? Was Carpenter I can’t remember but he played well year 2. Seems it takes Juco guys a year of coaching to get them ready and get Juco out of them so to speak.

Yeah, Carpenter was adequate his 1st season and real good his 2nd -- fortunately, since there was a hole he needed to fill. OL is the toughest position (group) to get down pat. To avoid costly blocking assigment errors you've got to learn and know a lot with all the stunt and blitz tricks DCs have up their sleeves. That's why you hear the "gel" term used often in reference to an o-line all learning to play together consistently as a cohesive unit. The OLs have to read, recognize and react to stunts and blitzes post-snap as they're happening -- adjusting their assigments on the fly. It's tricky business.

I like him better than Handy. They both get off the ball really well but unlike Handy, Young doesn't freelance when the play isn't going in his direction.

I just saw on twitter that UCF won the Kentucky Derby. Congrats to them on another trophy

I know must people are saying we take 27 or 28 this year. Is that realistic with our numbers? I know that it is super early but I was checking out the eligibility tracker on TideSports and I wasn't sure how we get there. I'm not sure what inaccuracies are there if any.

LINK

With 13 seniors, that means we would need 14-15 early draft entrants and transfers. Womack leaving and Davis, Jennings, Lewis, and Williams likely declaring that would put us at 18. That leaves 9 or 10 other players needing to leave. I can see Hurts, Knott and some other lineman transfering out anywhere between now and the next class but that still seems like a lot.

I feel like I'm overlooking something obvious (besides the fact that Saban always makes the numbers work), what am I missing?

Lemme guess. One of UCF's equestrian team horses once outran a horse that once outran the Derby winner.

There are some redshirt juniors who'll graduate and likely either grad transfer or simply move on from playing FB. There could even be a few transfers before this fall, like maybe Elliot Baker for example. In the 1st post in this thread, there's a link to the 2018 85-Man Roster Breakdown done by BOL, if you want to compare it to Rivals. Looking at it, I can come up with about 25 departures.

I must confess. I've used this forum for years and still had no idea that feature existed.

Yeah around 25 give or take makes sense. It just seems like a few people are confident on us taking 27 or 28 and that seems a stretch based on the current numbers. Of course that can change quickly. It just seems like when Parks had to grayshirt 2 years ago where we had less spots than we all were projecting.

I would find a spot for him even on the DL. With his quickness and ability to run through people could be a nightmare on the DL

I guess you never saw the competition D Henry faced in HS. It looked like middle school kids and people had doubts about what he could could at UA. Just saying
