He told me he thought he was going to get the head job when Stallings retired.

When Coach Stallings came to T’town in Jan of ‘90, I was a walk on QB. Coach Moore made no bones about it, that he didn’t have time nor did he want to take time with any walk ons, so he sent me to Coach Oliver to throw for his DBs. To this day, my shoulder grinds anytime I make any movement that resembles a throwing motion. I joked with George Teague and a few others that “it was me that was responsible for making them all such great DBs!” Hell! All of the picks I used to throw them all!! ??
RIP Coach Oliver
RIP Coach Oliver

Coach Oliver was a cool cat. He was friends with my pops. He once told me that stallings was a good man and a damn good motivator but was a dumbass when it came to football. I was pretty shocked but it was funny the way he told it

It is strange that I was thinking about him yesterday and the win over Miami. I never understood the animosity that a lot of Bama fans had toward him simply because he coched at the Barn. RIP Brother.

Will never forget him putting all 11 men on the line against Miami. Scared the piss out of them.

Coach lived a few doors down from my MIL. He was always in the hallway talking to friends.
He was as deaf as a post but a really nice, likeable guy.
You could hear his TV volume from the parking lot.
