Sorry I have nothing to add because I haven't watched one second of BYU play basketball this year, but I just wanted to hear this board's opinion on the game.

All I know is that BYU is hot right now and can shoot the 3 as well or better than 'Bama, but may lack size at the rim. What am I missing?

Oddly enough, they remind me a lot of Alabama from last year.

Two NBA styles. We win the rebounding game and we should win, barring some extraordinary shooting on BYU’s part. Our defense is better than theirs. Both teams are elite 2P% wise. They’re a little better from 3. We’ve been playing more inside-out lately whereas BYU’s offense is more outside-in.

Would like to see more hedge and recover like we saw against Saint Mary’s.

Aren't they basically Kentucky with less athletic players? I believe they still run Pope's system.

Should add that while they are less athletic than Kentucky they appear to be better shooters (at least lately).

Reid could have a big role in this game as he is one of our best perimter defenders.

Sounds like it's nothing 'Bama hasn't seen this season in the SEC and OOC, but a hot team is a hot team.

Would love for Sherrell to have a breakout game to go along with all of the other already solid players. Dude just seems like a beast in waiting.

Has the makings of being the best game of the tournament.

102-90 type game. The score will look closer than it actually is. Unless they absolutely just can’t miss from three and we shoot poorly, I don’t think it will be close

Not sure why you were downvoted . You're right in a lot of ways. They are 37% from 3 at a higher volume then we shoot 3s. They've got a Russian PG/Point Forward who is 6'9", that's supposed to be a lottery draft pick. But he's also the tallest starter. Their center is 6'8". They have another guard who is probably their best player, who shoots 43% from 3.

So.... strong guards, weak front court. Sound familiar? Pringle or Wague would fit right in.

We are probably stronger overall at the different positions. We also have more depth. We're a better, more well tuned version of very similar systems.

The Sweet 16 has always been Alabama's wall that they have only scaled twice, so there is that.

As far as the matchup, if Alabama plays their game without the turnovers, Alabama by double digits. Alabama played far better teams in SEC play.

Bama light, but can absolutely beat us if they’re hot and we’re shooting mediocre

I wonder if we will see more of Cliff and Sherrell together. Unless im mistaken, they played together for the first time against St Marys. It may have just been because Grant was out.

We may also see some of Grant at the 5 and play more 5 out. Mo has been hot from 3. I could see us going with Grant, Reid, Mo, and two guards for a stretch.

Cliff has been balling out of control lately. Gotta expect more lobs. Grant and Reid are alley oop threats too. Maybe Stevenson. Sherrell has been going up strong and getting easy buckets or fouls.

Mo and Jarin will probably have to match up against their PG/PF. Mo might give that dude fits, or he could get in foul trouble.

I've seen people say that. But Alabama has been called the 31st NBA team because of how we play. BYU's coach is from the NBA and they play a similar style as us. So if the 2 most NBA like teams are playing, shouldn't it by definition make it the most boring and unwatchable game of the tournament?

Guy at work asked me how I felt about the game this morning.

Thankfully there's a gif for my response so you get the full visual effect:

Yes and no. Like Kentucky, I think we have a point floor that makes us a tough matchup for them. They simply do not defend well and it gets worse with quality competition

Kentucky

BYU

As you can see, a lot of similarities, but a few big differences. Kentucky does not rebound nearly as well as BYU. Despite not having a player taller than 6-9, they are exceptionally good at rebounding. Probably has something to do with the 6-8 point guard

On the positive side, BYU doesn’t defend the 3 for shite and Kentucky is actually pretty solid at it

They did, but it was because St Mary's put two bigs in at the same time.

Thank you. I was watching in a bar and couldnt follow everything.

Probably not the look Oats wants to go with. Its hard for those big guys to run at the pace Oats wants the offense to move. But it does bring a whole lot of size and rebounding into the game. I just think we have enough size from our other guys that we wont need that jumbo look. Sherrell does need some minutes though. He's nice.

They play like we do. As others have said they are a Kentucky-like opponent. However, BYU has been one of the best teams in the country since mid-February according to all the predictive analytics. This is almost guaranteed to be a high scoring game, we are going to need our guards to play better and make shots.

For like 3 minutes in Coleman against Florida, we had Cliff, Jarin, and Aiden on the court together. Can’t remember the offense but it bothered them defensively
