Ready to see some portal additions

Next year is looking rough for us right now. Need to hit the portal hard or we could struggle to make it to Hoover next spring.

I'm sure we are. But we just don't have the same resources to offer SEC caliber players that other SEC schools do. Guys hit the portal for 2 reasons now: NIL or playing time. Obviously Shelton and Holman aren't leaving for more playing time.
So our options in the portal are SEC guys who are riding the bench at their school or hope to find some diamond in the rough from a smaller school. Neither option is great.

We are f**ked. Per Roger Patrick Myers, who is as close to the baseball program as anyone, outrageous offers for Holmon were pouring in before he even entered the portal. Other teams are tampering and we can't match them.

would they have been gone regardless of who the new coach was going to be?

So much for finally turning the corner in baseball.

Yes. There are a very small group of teams that are going to use the portal to create an All-Star team every year. Those are the schools where people want to see baseball do well and win national titles.

This is why you roll your eyes whenever someone uses the "the players want ______ as coach" talking point. Shelton and Holman already had their foot at the door and Jackson was still retained.
Offseasons are going to be an uphill battle for us, that's just the landscape and position our program is in, unfortunately, it's not realistic to have your choice of guys like in football and seemingly basketball now. We're going to continue to have some very good players poached for better financial/championship opportunities.

Outfielder from Rutgers Evan Sleight transferring to Bama. Stats seem solid though with the caveat it's the Big10.

Projected as a 13th round draft pick. Think he is a solid prospect for us

Fans should settle down and wait to see what happens. Losing these guys stinks, but this was inevitable with a coaching change. Thankfully the transfer portal works both ways.
Rob Vaughn has a tough job ahead of him but the foundation is infinitely better than the one Brad Bohannon inherited in 2017. Alabama baseball can be back in a good spot in a couple of years.

I'm thrilled to share that I'll be transferring to the University of Alabama. This decision marks the beginning of a new chapter in my athletic journey, and I'm eagerly anticipating the exciting opportunities that lie ahead. Roll Tide!

Oats did it, I think Vaughn will do it too. Battle like hell for a roster than can compete the first year, overachieve with what you got, and then build off that.

Nate Oats doesn't need top tier talent to run his system. He can DEVELOP players to be top tier and run his system like a well oil machine. I think Coach Vaughn is similar to Nate Oats. He has a certain type of player he wants...all he has to do is develop them and he already done that at his last stop.

He does to win games. Let’s not kid ourselves. It’s always about players at the end of the day.

We aren’t paying up now (NIL) after a fricking super regional appearance.
What makes you think we will pay up a year from now or two years from now?
That said, players that transfer to other SEC schools for NIL money need to start getting thrown at.
Yes I’m mad.

Look I want our baseball team to succeed as much as anyone, and I’m anti FOG, but if it comes down to allocating money to a pitcher or an edge rusher I’m not paying a fricking baseball player. If for whatever reason there is only enough money to go here or there, send it to the football program and keep beating everyone’s arse when the leaves change colors. I’ll trade that for a rough June

Nate develops guys to be TOP TIER...I stand on that because he's done it every since he got here.
Rob Vaughn can do it as well.

Don’t you get it? We can develop the hell out of a player. And if that player throws 97 or bats .350 he will develop over at LSU or UF unless we figure this NIL thing out.
