Who's bright idea was it to perform major road construction concurrently on the two major North - South routes through town?
McFarland and Lurleen Wallace are a shite fest right now with seemingly no end in sight.
And what's the end game? Just some level sidewalks and new curbing?

Yea it’s very frustrating. Apparently the city was awarded separate grants for the different projects, but they all expire at the same time. They had to be used or the city lost them. It sucks that we can’t get anywhere in the city in under 20 minutes right now.

Lurleen Wallace: They are moving the on-street parking from the main road to the side streets. They are adding left and right turn lanes on Lurleen Wallace to increase capacity. The plan was to have it finished by December 2019. Weather may have pushed that back just a little bit.
McFarland: They are about to add lanes to the interstate, which means they are replacing the bridge over McFarland. On McFarland, they are getting ready to replace the bridge and at the same time creating a SPUI (single point urban interchange) so that both off-ramps will become one intersection and use only one signal.

There also will be an added suspension bridge over McFarland.

Correct. They are doing a suspension bridge since they can't put columns in the middle of the SPUI.

Also, this is about to happen at 69/Skyland...

They are also putting some roundabouts at the bottom of the ramps off 69 at 5th street (the exit for city cafe, Northport Dreamland, wtc)

69 is ALDOT, McFarland is the city.

Lurleen Wallace is more than just sidewalks. The entire infrastructure needed repair. All the pipes were super old and in need of replacing. The end result will be fantastic and much needed.
