The 1925 Alabama Crimson Tide were led by third-year head coach Wallace Wade and captained by such stalwarts as Allison "Pooley" Hubert and Hoyt "Wu" Winslett. Another standout player was the future movie star and "Dothan Antelope," Johnny Mack Brown. Alabama stormed through the regular season, winning all of their games and finishing as Southern Conference champions.
vs. Union (W) 53-0
vs. Birmingham-Southern (W) 50-7
@ LSU (W) 42-0
vs. Sewanee (W) 27-0
@ Georgia Tech (W) 7-0
vs. Mississippi State (W) 6-0
vs. Kentucky (W) 31-0
vs. Florida (W) 34-0
vs. Georgia (W) 27-0
Shutting out eight of their nine opponents, the Alabama Crimson Tide ended the season 9-0 and were subsequently invited to play the 10-0-1 Washington Huskies in the 1926 Rose Bowl after other invitees were forced to decline for one reason or another.
The game, played on New Year's Day 1926, drew a crowd of over 50,000 spectators and became regarded as one of the greatest Rose Bowls in history. Washington would take a 12-0 halftime lead but Alabama would come storming back in the third quarter to take a 20-12 lead heading into the final period of action. Washington would subsequently score another touchdown to make the score 20-19 and were threatening late when Alabama's Johnny Mack Brown made a crucial tackle on fourth down and short to stop Washington's final scoring threat, sealing the game and the national championship for the Crimson Tide.
