LSU landed a commitment from standout USF defensive lineman Bernard Gooden on Saturday morning.

The 6-1, 280-pounder from Montgomery, Alabama, had 35 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, and 1.5 sacks last season.

Gooden was the top defensive lineman to enter the portal this spring.

How many years of eligibility remaining? As usual, the article is incomplete.

Nice defensive lineman. Quick of the line of scrimmage. A disruptor. He is a solid 280lber. CBK going for CFNC... GEAUX TIGERS!

Hell yeah. And didn’t the portal close at midnight? So we only lost the 1 freshman DT who wasn’t gonna play this year anyway, and we could theoretically add more? Great job on retention by the staff. I’m sure that’s a combo of BK, the coordinators, and the position coaches to present a vision of how they can be developed and used in their respective system, but also Austin Thomas and his staff on raising more money and figuring out how best to use it to retain guys.

Kelly needs to get it done this year. It’s year 4.

He gets a 5th year in my book. Would’ve made a 4 team playoff with a half-mediocre defense Jayden’s Heisman year.

Yep. And he adjusted after the season, and he continues to adjust and address weaknesses. We don’t know all of the misses they have had on getting certain players, and sometimes it’s just the kid or their agent want to go somewhere else, they can’t force people to LSU. We can’t complain about a poor defense for Jayden Daniels if he didn’t feel in Daniels and have the number 1 offense to begin with. Kelly took over a shattered roster and culture and continues to bring in good coaches and continues to make adjustments.

Good pickup
