Yes and no. Per multiple reports, especially the often mentioned Brooks Austin, many big name schools are already experiencing “donor fatigue”. If it goes to a salary cap, it won’t quite be totally under the table like the old days because the main donors will have already heavily contributed to the salary cap.

HOWEVER, if it moves into revenue splits, I could see that promoting a lot of under the table deals because then the donors aren’t primarily responsible for the salaries, the schools are.

The NIL, NCAA hearings, and legalities involving them are absolutely head spinning so I generally assume to be educated on the highlights and important events, but as far as the daily inching forward progression goes, I can’t keep up. When all that stuff gets legislated or decided, Just let me know what the major changes are and when they’ll take effect. Until then we’ll be in the same unsustainable eco-system we’re currently in.

I still clearly don’t understand the P&L of all of this.

Schools make bank on TV, ticket sales and mandatory donations, merchandise and non mandatory donations.

Then they want us to fund the NIL. It’s like they are seeing how close to the sun they can get. All so they don’t have to call the players what they are.

Landing big name guys isn't the ultimate goal. Results and a winning culture is more important.

As far as I know, the rule against school-funded NIL is still in effect and enforceable. I guess that would be "pay for play", which is obviously what we already have but the courts haven't acknowledged as such.

I wouldn't be surprised if there are schools where the rules are being completely ignored and athletic dept revenues are being funnelled to third parties who then use it to fund NIL payments. If they get caught, just sue the NCAA for restricting player income.

Yep, they still treat their athletics like a bake sale or ticket raffle or cheerleader carwash to buy new jerseys for the team, in a small town high school model, even though they are all now 9-figure businesses.

Imagine Arthur Blank sending out emails to the season ticket holders asking for donations to build a new shitter in the locker room.

It's absurd.

Tyler Williams was one of the purttiest-looking receivers I've seen at Georgia in a long time. He's really tall and can really run. Oh well. shite happens.

For some reason, there's always confusion about basic economic principles that affect our everyday lives. This is no exception because fan support for paying college athletes was widespread; it was just fair. But those same fans (i.e., consumers) of college athletics were destined to pay the cost of this revolution in amateur sports.

Econ 101. If the cost of production cost goes up and demand is inelastic (i.e., demand remains stable even at higher prices), that higher cost will be mostly passed to the consumers and production will remain stable. If demand is elastic, then consumption and production will drop until you reach a new balance of supply and demand at a higher price point.

We'll see how this plays out in college athletics but, in an entrenched environment of financial repression and monetary inflation, I'm expecting a decline in consumption (fans) and production (schools/teams/athletes/media) over time.

Georgia is in contact with Penn State transfer WR KeAndre Lambert-Smith, who led the team with 53 receptions for 673 yards and four touchdowns in 2023, per a report by On3's Pete Nakos. Lambert-Smith (6-foot-1, 184-pounds) was a 4-star recruit out of Norfolk, VA in the 2020 class. He's rated as the top available wideout by On3.

Anyone who pulls NIL that is promised should get a reputation.
Lies and liars don't escape consequences.
NIL contracts are submitted to the NCAA for record keeping. Prospects should be able to request paperwork and hold feet to the fire when lies are made.

This whole thing makes me wonder if chasing the newest talent in the portal isn’t counter productive. We go out and get Etienne for who knows how much and then lose a kid like Paul that committed to the G in the beginning and was waiting for his time.

If the message is to commit to the G and put in your work and be patient what kind of message does it send to bring in guys from other schools to plug in ahead of you in the depth chart?

Plus, as a fan I was much more excited to see Paul finally hit the field than I am about Etienne.

ESPNU radio on XM made a really good point the other day when they discussed that a lot of these transfer portal decisions are not necessarily coming from the kids directly, but rather from the coaches who are pushing them in a certain direction when they believe that they're not going to be able to see the field.

In all fairness, the biggest school with interest in Paul is Oregon then it drops to like Kansas State type programs. He looked good against the second and third string. We have no idea whether that big sideline run early in G Day was the correct read or not. He could’ve got chewed out later for not cutting it inside. I guess my point is that A: if you’re still doubting our coaching staff at this point, seek help, and B: clearly he wasn’t some huge target people were just desperate to see become available. Relax.

Whether Andrew Paul goes on to be the best college RB of all time or not, it was still the correct decision to take Etienne at the time. The dui and probably being suspended game 1 doesn’t change that. Neither does Paul looking good against backups in a spring game.

I heard he’s trending to follow Dell McGee to GA State.

I can't fault him for that. He's had a knee injury, starting his 3rd year of college and wants some assurance of getting significant production on film before time starts to run out on NFL aspirations. If McGee said that's available at Ga St., it's not a bad option. If he shows out there, he'll have opportunities to go back to P5 in 2025.

This was exactly what Ryland Goede said on his YouTube channel with Tate Ratledge (now co-hosted with Brett Thorson). Goede said Monken told him to leave, he'd never see the field.

I believe it was Rick Neuheisel on Full Ride. He may have an inside track or two on the HC perspective.

DawgNation is live on Twitter saying that chatter is that AZ State QB Jaden Rashada (and former UF commit) could be considering a move to Athens.

ETA: Apparently ON3 was on top of this last night.

Has anyone said that UGA is talking to Rashada? This kid's looking for his 3rd program in just over a year. I don't know if Kirby's interested or not, but the article was pretty vague about why they linked him to UGA.
