Nothing booked yet, but looking at it for a short family getaway within an hour drive. Reviews? Do's? Don'ts?

I held a meeting there a few months ago. The hotel was nice. Apparently a lot of kids activities there in the Summer.

We went last year. It was nice for the kids. I recommend paying the extra add on golf cart. It makes it all a little easier. The food was the biggest surprise. It was actually decent. The water park is above average. Most of the houses have been updated but check the drawers. We love dogs and all but the previous family’s dog shed all over the place. We bitched and they discounted us some money back and re-cleaned the place.

I once left some very fine product in a bedroom drawer in a Sullivan's Island rental. I rented the same place the next year hoping it would still be in there, it was not.

There are some good lake restaurants within a 10 minute drive from the park entrance.

Twisted Oar inside Holiday Marina. On the water. Afternoon, early dinner great place for families with kids. After about 8PM you get the boaters that come up and it can get a little "not" kid friendly, but good food and drinks! If you have the golf cart package you can take the sidewalks from the park to the marina.

Coastal Breeze- You actually pass it going to the islands. Great food, atmosphere, and service. Anytime is good for families, bar gets busy everyday around 5.

Fishtales @ Hideaway Bay Marina. About a 10 minute drive. Outdoor seating, on the water, big kid play area.

Pigtales @ Aqualand Marina. About a 10 minute drive. On the water, outdoor covered seating and uncovered. Food is good. Atmosphere is always fun. Gets busy late afternoon so be willing to grab a drink from the bar and wait down by the docks. Kid friendly.

Get your tee time early. Don't wait till you check in.

Definitely recommend. Tons of things to do. Kids will have a blast at the water park. Food is actually good around the resort and the few places mentioned within 10 min drive. The pool is quaint and usually have a DJ in the afternoons with poolside bar available. Great shady walking trails too. Also, good golfing if you get to sneak away from 5 hours
Lot of people on golf carts, a majority who shouldn’t be to be honest.

I haven't stayed in the resort.

We went during Christmas lights.

It was that bad feeling kind of like at Disney World where everything was costing about 3 times what it should.

It wasn't a bad experience. But way overpriced for the product.

It's called Margaritaville not Milwaukee's Best Town!

I think it was about $50 to roast marshmallows.
And then they kicked us out because they were closing early for an undisclosed reason.

Faux ice skating was free. And that was the kids favorite part.

I'm very much enjoying and appreciating everyone's input, exactly why I posted this. I want all information. Please keep it coming.

Also, I don't care about golf so the golf rec's while appreciated by other readers won't apply to me.

You didn’t provide a lot of information…how many days, age of kids, dates of year, how many family members, interests, etc.

You can chatGPT the perfect getaway for you and your family, given the budget, age, time there, interests, etc.

You won’t be disappointed in the resort. Spend the money and have fun. Let ChatGPT do it for you since you’re holding the important information

Not sure if they're doing it again this year, but they banned swimming last year.

I just booked for mid may, one of the lake cabins with a dog.

Only there two nights, what's the best place on the resort for dinner? My wife's only request was a really nice dinner so I need to deliver on that.

As far as $120 breakfasts, we have a full kitchen so eggs and toast and cheerios for us. Or drive 10 minutes to a McDonald's or Waffle House. Or just feel cute pay the $120 and feel good about our place in life.

Bare Bones is in Buford right down the road. They have good food and atmosphere. Roof top seating if that is your thing.

Hopefully they don't have the fence around the lake anymore

HIghly recommend Bare Bones. Make a reservation in advance. Pretty sure the rooftop is 21 and over.

I think I've been there before right in downtown Buford for a Christmas party in a rented out private room.

What about the on site restaurants?
