Top 7 hitters from the 89' team had totals of
72 homeruns, 453 RBI, .363 BA, in 437 games (divide by 7 etc)
All 7 hitters were JRs or SRs

So far, by April 17, 2024. Top 7 Aggie hitters have combined for
68 homeruns, 248 RBI, .327 BA, in 248 games

Out of these 7, one is a freshman, one is a sophomore.

I'll update. For those that are interested. Statistically the 7 most talented guys on this year's team are, Montgomery, LaViolette, Grahovac, Camarillo, Burton, Appel, Schott

May 28, 1989 still sticks in my craw. It was gut wrenching and heart breaking.

They hit incredibly well as the batting average is evident. They just didn't have the power the current team does. The homerun total will probably dwarf the 89' team

There are a ton of similarities. Is Ben McDonald still around?

I’ve been seeing a lot of mention recently to the 89 team. I was curious how we look record wise to this point compared to that team

I watched my first baseball game today. Maybe some of the older Ags could tell you

The irony.. I look at box scores every... single night before I go to bed. NBA, MLB, NFL, what ever is in season. I've always been a stat driven fan which started as a child because, wait for it *gasp* I was a baseball player, and that was my first love. Baseball is the most stat driven sport there is.

I even dabble in NHL box scores, just not as much as other sports.

I can't believe that some triggered Gump, went back numerous pages, several hours later and gathered that I didn't know how to read a box score because I asked if anyone knew how many arms Bama had used in the middle of the 2nd game of a double header.

What a weirdo!

The 1989 team was an astonishing 40-1 after 41 games. 2024 is 35-5 after 40 games. The college game is a lot different than it was 35 years ago in my opinion. Pitching is better, bat is different and the players are huge by comparison. Also the talent overall in the college game has rocketed. It's why you see non power 5 conferences that have multiple teams that are quite talented.

40-1 is mind boggling

But not to over exaggerate, this team is damn good. We need to enjoy what’s in front of us. Don’t worry about the post season, enjoy right now. Worry about regionals when we get there. This team is fun to watch man!

This team is outstanding. No question about it. It's not perfect, as no team is. But it is outstanding.
