GAME INFO

DEPTH CHART

Will we win this one?

Kind of joking, but sadly, not really.

lol. Napier needs a blowout here (28+ points) to avoid his seat getting warm(er).

A loss and we might as well call it a day. Even a close hard fought win is unacceptable.

Vanderbilt is not on our level, and everyone with a pulse has dominated them so far.

Luckily we have them at the Swamp.

Seems like we can show up enough at the Swamp, as opposed to road games.

Fans will be there, well probably 75,000 but the atmosphere will be nothing close to what the UT was like.

I doubt it would have been even with a win last weekend.

I look for us to really pound Vandy and then lose to South Carolina.

I am still shell-shocked from this weekend and am not too confident about how we play against Vandy.

And I have almost zero faith this team can show up on the road after what we've seen in SLC and Lex.

Not really sure if its just a road issue though prior to this game. Except for Vandy our offense at least scored on the road last season unlike Utah and KY this season.

The word is out, stuff the box against the Gators offense on 1st and second down and they will still run the ball up the middle. Drop back and protect the yard to gain on 3rd down and the Gators will call patterns short of the first down line. Just make a tackle and get ready to receive the punt on 4th down. Most unimaginative offense I have seen in years. Wasting talent by being so predictable.

Well, I said that the Tennessee game was the biggest game in determining Napier's future and at the time it was, after the laydown in Lexington the Vandy game may now be the biggest game in determining Napier's future at UF. The natives are become very restless.

That type of passing game is why Mertz can complete almost 80% of his passes with that joke stuff but we still only score 11 and 14 points against Utah and KY. Heck we only scored 22 on frickin Charlotte with that nonsense

I was about to say "when was the last time we lost to Vandy and Kentucky in a single year?" And then I remembered it was last year...

This is an absolute must win game with it being Vandy. I think Napier can keep most of the class together even if we went 5-7 but if we lost to Vandy again with a poor offensive showing there would be some major negative recruiting being used against us by the other teams.

I definitely understand where you are coming from, but I am going to try to do my best to avoid the week-to-week roller coaster. Vandy is a must win in the sense they are the easiest game left on our schedule. If we went 0-6 after that and get blown out in each game, I think Napier is still entering 2024 on the hottest of hot seats and the class probably crumbles.

If somehow we lost to Vandy but win 3/4 out of the last 6 and are improving each week, I don't think anyone cares about the Vandy game.

And honestly, I don't think either of those are really going to happen. If you put a gun to my head, I would say we probably beat Vandy and win maybe 2 of the last 6. But this team shows it's a fool's errand to predict anything.

I am more interested in seeing how we play though. Are we improving procedurally (somewhat hopeful here) and schematically (not hopeful here on offense)? Does the team look like they are fighting? Do we improve on the road? Those are the questions I will be asking.

I agree with you. The rest of the sentence is accurate also.

When isn't Vandy a "must win" game?

Good point but it used to be an automatic win.

To me automatic wins are de facto "must wins" since if a coach loses them, their seat is going to be scorching as soon as the clock hits 0:00.

But I get what you mean too.

I don't see this Vandy team having much of a chance. They don't have any real weapons like some Vandy teams that pulled upsets before. That RB on KY gouged us quite a bit last season in Vandy's win. I am not sure they have any good SEC talent this season but I might be forgetting someone. Then again we played around and only scored 22 on Charlotte and Vandy is definitely better than them.
