If he had the talent of Bama or LSU, he'd be a nightmare.

So in twelve years at Florida, Spurrier had three 11+ win seasons. In 8 seasons with South Carolina he has two 11 win seasons...so he's right on pace, right? Well, except for the Championships at least.

Yeah, but 12 game seasons didn't start until 2006. All of his seasons at Florida had 11 game regular seasons, and all but his first season at South Carolina had 12.

He's a nightmare now.

Be totally honest. Had SC not faced the schedule they faced this year, having Georgia, LSU and Florida consecutively with LSU and Florida being on the road ...

Let me just ask you this. If LSU had come to The Cock Pit rather than SC coming to y'all and playing y'all at home, at night down there ... do you believe the outcome might have been different?

Name one program in the conference right now that counts SC as an automatic win.

I'm not flaming here, but what he has done with South Carolina carries far more weight than anything he might have done anywhere else simply because everyone said it could not be done here - yet he is doing it.

And here is the crazy thing. We'll be more talented next year than we have been the past two years. He's been using his success to recruit like a mad man - he's what he says, "All in." The man is totally and completely committed to us.

Here is another aspect of it that few seem to realize.

Had he gone to Bama or LSU there would have been a lot more pressure. One of the things he says here, over and over, is that everything he does here is a first. And he loves that aspect of coaching here. There is no pressure - it makes it fun for him. He's in the golf capital of the country right here - which is his passion during the off season. He's less than an hour away from Augusta National where he plays four or five times a year. South Carolina has long been known for producing great DLinemen, which he has taken full advantage of and is so important in the SEC. He's got a beach house. He's got eight grandchildren who were born here, in Columbia. Everyone in his family is living here except for the one daughter that still lives in Florida. He's got his big boat docked here. He's a living legend in these parts. His wife loves it here. Again, there is no pressure - just enjoyment and job satisfaction. I'm not sure LSU or Bama or anyone else would have been as patient from the get-go as SC fans were. But we knew money had to be spent on facilities, that things had to be done to change the culture of the program ... and we knew Spurrier was the guy to do it so everyone left him alone and stayed the hell outta of the way of his ego.

I agree, if he was at LSU or anywhere else he would be dangerous - but he's dangerous here and his family and he are having fun being dangerous. This has seriously become their home and we're all proud to have him.

Finally, one last question. No matter how well he did at LSU or anywhere else for that matter ... when he left would they name the field after him, erect a statue even?

Listen, if Spurrier wins the SEC here, and especially if he manages to win a MNC here, (which he could conceivable do once this playoff system falls into place), we will name the field Spurrier Field, we'll erect statues ... hell, we're already naming babies and dogs after him around here.

Where else is there another rivalry as intense as the Carolina-Clemson rivalry, and believe me, it is insanely intense, where Spurrier could get on a roll against said rival and dominate like he is beginning to do against Clemson, while at the same time allowing Spurrier to beat Georgia every year now that he has it rolling.

I dunno - I may be wrong - it wouldn't be the first time but the way most of us see it around here, including Spurrier, the South Carolina job, we South Carolina fans, it was destiny. This was all about karma for both parties involved and we're going to enjoy it as long as it lasts.

He said something this morning about he's staying until 2017 and then we'll go from there. He said he is having fun and he doesn't see any reason to even think about retiring right now.

And when he is gone?

Spurrier, Jr., "Bubba" as we know him - he's had coaching offers but he's staying with his Dad here in Columbia. He's had five kids born here. He's got two National Championship Rings on his finger (Florida and Oklahoma) and he says he plans on having three soon. His wife is a big wig at the Nursing School at USC, his kids love it here ... who knows, but Spurrier is building a legacy here and he seems intent on leaving it in good shape once he finally does decide to hang up the whistle.

Oh, and that mansion he lives in over in Wild Wood, it's paid for as of this year and he's got the keys.

I dunno - we'll see what happens.
