Gus leveraged his Springdale players to get in the college game, then bailed on them in less than a year and encouraged them to transfer.

Wouldn't say this is accurate. He left Arkansas for Tulsa, hardly an example of him being opportunistic and greedy. If he were really being selfish, he would have tried to convince those players to follow him.

Arkansas hired him for the sole purpose of signing the Springdale players who otherwise had no interest in the Hogs. Then did not allow him free reign over the offense as promised. It was a dysfunctional situation all around.

I am not a huge Malzahn fan, but again given the situation if any of us were coaches in the same situation we would have all done the same thing. It is similar to having a job at a major business and get offered a job being in charge of a smaller part of the company. You don't necessarily dislike were you are working, but you see an opportunity to run things. Then after a while the job your old boss held becomes available and they offer you the job. Again, I don't see why anyone could think he did anything wrong other than maybe Arkansas State fans.

He did try to get Mustain to. DW was set on USC and only signed w/ Arkansas because of Gus' promises.

Gus bailed on Arkansas b/c he was butthurt about being called high school, and Hootie putting the brakes on Gus' offense to run the wheels off DMAC/Jones/Hillis.

I've been on shellacking end of a Gus beatdown while he was at Shiloh. most of the schools in the conference refused to play them anymore because of their recruiting of players. He took my coach too. Best coach we ever had, quit us to work on Gus' staff, but he's dead now. So just being around Gus will give you cancer.
