10. How he stayed in his golf cart most of the time during practices
9. How he laid down on some trunks and went to sleep before one Egg Bowl
8. "Mr. Character" had more players arrested in 5 years than Jackie Sherrill did in 13 years
7. He led the offense- and it's best finish in 5 seasons was 103rd in the country
6. He told the fans he didnt care what they thought
5. It was embarrassing to see him speak on TV
4. How he told Bob Davie he would retire before switching offenses
3. He never changed offensive coordinators in 5 years even though he never broke the top 100 in offense
2. He left Mullen 1 WR on scholarship and a walk-on QB as his starter after being at a school 5 seasons.
1. He fell asleep on a recruit's couch while one of the assistants was talking to the mother and family.
I could list another 20 things, but no need. The guy was a joke for a coach and probably the worst in SEC history.

Give Croom a good staff at a program that can recruit talent and he would be a great coach. I know that goes for most people but some schools have a ceiling for success and Miss State is just not a championship program.

Clearly we'd know nothing about a coach falling asleep during a key event involving his program...like the NFL Combine...

Can anyone else confirm this?
Or is this just coonass being coonass?

It really was a fluff piece and I felt its only point was to try and make me feel bad for croom, Tom Rinaldi should've been narrating it was that bad. And after it all don't feel bad for the guy, he was not a good coach, DWI

That's a lie. The man was a good speaker, and he ran his program with class. Even after his two biggest wins, both vs his first love in Alabama, he reminded his players to win with class.

Insinuating that he was asked to compromise his morals but that he refused is an absolute joke. He signed a cornerback while he was in JAIL.
By all accounts he was lazy, and that was his downfall. A SEC coach working 8-5 is not going to cut it.
Also, I witnessed first hand at the Georgia Tech game in ATL, that Croom (who had been on the job 5 years) did not know the clock rules of college football. Croom = Nice guy but horrendous coach.

Good. MSU fans wouldn't know good football if it bit them on the arse.

No he wasn't.
He also didn't have the NCAA in town about to drop the hammer.
Mississippi State has had TWO 10-win seasons in its entire history. TWO.
Big wins under Croom:
Florida (2004)
Alabama (2006)
Auburn (2007)
Alabama (2007)
UCF (2007)
Arkansas (2008)
Big wins under Mullen:
Georgia (2010)
Florida (2010)
Michigan (2010)
Wake Forest (2011)
Auburn (2012)
Michigan (2010)
Mississippi State fans are idiots.

did it cover Croom's winning percentage against SEC West teams compared to Mullen's?
Posted on 9/26/12 at 11:16 am to CoonassBulldog
I am so glad we hired Shula instead of Croom.
