LSU not addressing needs via the portal is what happens when you overpay for a head coach

The rules are different in the portal era. LSU wouldn't have the portal blues if they hired a young up and comer who would work for half of Kelly's $10+million/year. The price for players is only going to go up. Spend wisely.

Tennessee State Tigers defensive lineman Terrell Allen entered the NCAA transfer portal. Allen was a key ingredient to Eddie George's defense during the 2024 season.
The North Little Rock native earned the 2023 Buck Buchanan Award and Big South-OVC Defensive Player of the Year after leading the FCS with 14.5 sacks and 28 tackles for loss. He also had 65 tackles, five forced fumbles, and ten quarterback hurries last season.

Did Brian Kelly literally not just have a portal guy win the Heisman for him? We got lots of impact portal guys in the 2022 class and it resulted in an SECCG appearance. Kelly has done fine in the portal. Obviously no one is happy about the terrible condition of our interior DL and that does fall on the head coach, but we’re also not gonna pay a mediocre 1 year guy $600K when a guy like Harold Perkins is making significantly less.
