People get caught up in the "transitive property" of football. Texas > Alabama and Alabama > Georgia, therefore Texas > Georgia. That's not an on the field result, it's the faulty application of a mathematical concept. Football teams don't have a constant or easily defined value.

On the field results obviously matter, but there's no simple way to compare results because teams play different schedules under different circumstances and every team plays at a different level in every game. Georgia and Texas had identical records through 13 games. There was no clear-cut answer to which was better. I lean toward Georgia, but the committee disagreed and the question will never be answered.
