I have a sour opinion of this team. They seemed a bit too confident, to the point of hubris, and less focused than the 2011 and 2012 teams. They treated the LSU game like a coronation that would put them into SECCG and BCSCG.
My exact issues with this team. They didn’t have a unit that was hungry and pushing the rest of the team to meet a goal like that 2015 front 7.
Or the 2008 Offensive line and underclassmen.
Or the 2009 team as a whole.
Or the 2011 front 7.
Or the 2012 offensive line.
Or the 2017 defense.
Or the 2020 offensive killdozer.

Basically 2013 had no presence of seniority. Nobody felt like they had anything to prove.

Surprising with the seniors like AJ, CJ, Norwood, Bell and players like Clinton-Dix, Collins and Cooper on the team.

The scuttlebutt I heard around town in 2013 was that AJ McCarron was hit-or-miss in the leadership role. Some of the younger guys didn't like him or he didn't do enough outreach with them to develop trust. As you pointed out, he was never really the locker room leader on the prior two championship teams. Who knows if that was the truth but it is something I've heard.
