He was 72 years old when he retired. Coaching college football is not a job for old men now days. Currently there is only one head coach over 70 in college football. Mack Brown is 72.

The next closest is Kirk Ferentz at 69.

There are only 16 coaches currently who are 60 years old or older. Brian Kelly is the 10th oldest in the game and he is only 62, ten years younger than Saban.

Father time is why Saban retired. He said so himself. He did not want to be remembered like Bobby Bowden, Joe Paterno or even Bear Bryant are remembered at the end of their careers.
