In the old days Saban always wanted a guy that could "take the top off the defense" at one of the WR spots. He wanted a guy who defenses had to respect their speed with a safety over the top. It didnt have to be Amari Cooper or Jeudy giving CBs a clinic on footwork. It just had to be speed, speed, speed.

I think that will work with Milroe. Lord knows he wants to chuck it deep, and keeping a safety in the deep part of the field allows room to run (And maybe hit a crossing route? Lol, nah).

So, do we have a guy who can keep a safety up top? I think Ryan Williams can do that. Not sure about some of the other guys. Odom aint that type of guy. I dont see Law in that role. But Prentice, maybe. Henderson, idk.

I think we definitely need a guy in that role. Devonta Smith was incredible doing that. He had the smoothest get off you've ever seen and then he would just race guys down the sideline. I will admit we dont have any Smitty's on this roster. The golden gazzelle was maybe the greatest WR in college history. But we really only need the freshman version, not the heisman version.

There is a reason DeBoer said he was excited about Ryan Williams joining the team in June. I have been to some of Saraland's games and have watched his film. He has got the speed and hands, but what sets him apart is his footwork. The guy is special!

Speed isn't the only attribute a good WR needs, but it's one of them. Here is a rundown of the speeds of some of the WR's on the team, based off internet searches. The 40 times can be questionable sometimes, but the 100M times were all from track meets.

Kendrick Law 100M 10.48
Cole Adams 100M 10.65
Ryan Williams 100M 10.68
Kobe Prentice 100 M 10.81
Emmanuel Henderson 11.4

Emmanuel Henderson 40 yd 4.35
Kobe Prentice 40 yd 4.38
Cole Adams 40 yd. 4.42
Kendrick Law 40 yd 4.44
Ryan Williams 40 yd 4.48

the scheme is going to be helping us as well. With BoB and Rees there was nothing in the scheme to help wrs get open. DeBoer played wr, his scheme is very dynamic, lots of looks, lots of motion, lots of misdirection, lots of stuff we haven't had since sark was here. I have no worries about the offense, it's gonna work great with who we have at wr now and who's coming in the fall
