Place a five gallon bucket in an area that has a lot of mosquito activity or around the perimeter of your yard, preferably in the shade. Fill the bucket 3/4 full of water. Drop a mosquito dunk in each bucket. It’s cheap and controls the mosquito population.

Do mosquitos only lay a certain amount of eggs so you encourage them to do it in a controlled spot to kill future mosquitos? I imagine they are also laying eggs elsewhere and you’re not really stopping anything.

I do use them in a bird bath that I find larvae in during the summer. It works in the bird bath but I still have mosquitoes in my yard. I’ve tried the Spartans for two seasons and they don’t work.
