Lmao I don’t think SXSW is an event that many southerners go to

Most of the time when people complain that something was cooler 20 years ago I roll my eyes, but that really is the case with SXSW. Almost everything is geared towards people with corporate passes.
You can still find some cool events worth checking out here and there if you live close by, but overall it’s not worth traveling or going out of your way to attend anymore imo.

SXSW was cool like 25 years ago. You could find cool up and coming artists all over the place.
Now it’s bloated and corporate. Might still have good bands, but it’s a different feel now.
Edit: what Heels said

Dude you go and tell us how cool Austin is when those of us that live in Texas know it is a shithole!

Nope. It’s a total overpriced shite show like all things Austin these days. Enjoy your $17.50 Lone Star and some no name Finnish dairy farmer synth/pop/rapper who you stood in line for an hour to see unless you dropped a grand on wrist band to jump the line.

Last time I went was 2006, band I was playing drums for got signed to a shitty (and broke) Indy label from Austin and they supposedly booked us at Maggie Mae's for SXSW, ended up playing at San Jac Saloon I think, but the whole thing was a clusterfrick. Stayed at a motel 6 north of Austin (somewhere around Rock Rock) and barely made it down in time for our set. Band broke up shortly after (label was only doing token promotion and promises of recording never happened) and haven't been back since. If I already lived in the Austin area I would have probably checked it out a few times over the years, but not worth the hassle these days.

When it was a music festival, it was awesome. And there’s still some cool stuff. But, I’m going to have to sit out the AI mania & Markle lecture.

Tech owns this event. Almost takes the fun out of it.
