It was a week before any warrants were issued. I’d say they probably did a lot of interviews of witnesses and investigating knowing the national attention this would get.
I wouldn’t expect Holly to make a statement confessing his guilt.
Best case scenario is that in the end they find out the witnesses are lying or were confused about who did what
