Technically it was punched out by Carter, thus the lengthy forward progression of the roll.

Been watching football since the late 70's and I've never seen a football roll that far in a straight line. Even though Bama was comfortably ahead at the time, I began to have an uneasy feeling from the moment that ball rolled out the back of the end zone.
